If (God forbid) Mitt Romney wins the Presidency...?

What will be the main reason?

Will it be because the Democrats did not go to the polls? Will it be because the Republicans are so enthused about Romney that they go to the polls in droves?

Will it be because of racism in America? Is it because most of America is still racist?

Would it be because the Democrats were too liberal and America rejected their message? And the Party would need to move more to the center if they wanted to remain competitive in the future?

This is only a hypothetical that no one wants to entertain, but could it happen?

1. It will be because of the "Citizens United" Supreme Court decision.

The only reason that Romney won Florida is the massive amount of cash contributed by corporations fueling all those ads. Those millions of dollars will continue rolling into the Romney campaign, because the Supreme Court said that corporations can contribute as much as they want to political campaigns, and they don't even have to identify themselves as the donors.

That is what is destroying America.

6. Steal Already On

The steal is already on. Voter ID, gerrymandering, electronic voting, fewer voting machines in Democratic districts, minority challenging, denying vote to Democratic voters even with ID, literature misleading voter on voting days, intimidation, billions of dollars in secret bribery cash, etc are already being planned. Every trick in the book is being set up as we speak. I guarantee it. They simply won't let 2008 occur again.

5. Why would they want Romney in the WH if it does?

Just another "hail mary" pass by the public that *maybe* he might be able to fix the economy with the same failed Bush policies that got us into the mess in the first place? I know that it's, unfortunately, entirely possible and that voters can be illogical (see 1994, 2004, 2010) but would that really work out for the Repubs? And if he gets in and he and the GOP Tea Party can't fix things (we know how much they already suck at governing), well, then what? Voting for the Republicans- any of them- in November would be pretty much throwing up our hands and throwing in the towel for this country IMHO. I know that there's still people still able and willing to pull the levers for them b/c they believe Fox News and hate radio and hate Obama and Democrats so much but still...............

8. The Plan To Make It Worse
Wed Feb 1, 2012, 11:13 AM
Feb 2012

The plan to make it worse. They know they are wrong. And the are scuttling the country o purpose. If you protest you will be clubbed, tear gassed or beaten like OWS is now. Except with Rawmoney in charge it will be the National Guard doing the work instead.

And the will end all safety net programs to boot. All the good jobs will be off shored.

7. None of us here wants to believe it can, but...

Let's face it, if President Obama runs his campaign like he did his first term, we're toast.
The racists are emboldened by the apparent free pass to smear Obama without contest. They have lined up like-minded African-Americans and Hispanics to deflect their bias towards wealthy white people and have also done a pretty good job on uneducated, low-information blue-collar voters. Their attempts to add women to the head of the minority parade have largely backfired with the inclusion of such low-intellects as Bachmann, Palin, and Coulter.
Democrats need to come out fighting for our values and hope that Obama backs us up. Usually in Presidential elections that formula is reversed, but 2012 should be about a repudiation of the failed right-wing agenda, and the ultimate value to this country from liberal values.
As they always do, the ReThugs will take our successes and recast them as weaknesses: like painting Kerry, a distinguished war veteran, as a coward or painting the too-lite stimulus, which they successfully lightened, as a failed economic policy.
It is time for a reawakening of liberal values: call them progressive if we wish, but call them as they are - the defining policies that keep this country a place for true opportunity and fairness. Opportunity and fairness that have been unquestionably eroded by the right-wing agenda.

9. If we don't get our asses to the polls
Wed Feb 1, 2012, 11:21 AM

like we did 08. Look, voter turnout in the rethug primaries is way down from 2008. The rethug media projected mass turnout amoung rethug voters because of all the Obama hate from the right, umm didn't happen. I think the rethug voters are beyond pissed at the list of shitty candidates they have to choose from. Lurking on freeperville, I've come to the conclusion that many of them will write in Gingrich come Nov. Its not looking too good for Mittens in regards to the rethug base. I'm sure the Obama Admin is on top of the voter ID law situation and have a good ground game in place making sure voters will have what they need come Nov. We will have ourselves to blame if we lose.

stuff is going into effect. Repubs know that if people actually get their asses to the polls, they have no hopes of winning without disenfranchising voters... hence the numerous voter ID bills being pushed through state legislation. They don't really care if a dead person gets to vote, only that the dead person doesn't vote Democratic.

really is the biggest driver of peoples' attitudes when it comes to politics.

On another board I visited yesterday, some Puke said that he would happily pay $8 a gallon for gas this summer if it meant that Obama would be voted out of office.

13. Some percentage of Americans could think Obama is a shoe-in and not
Wed Feb 1, 2012, 12:09 PM
Feb 2012

vote, and some percentage of youth are disenchanted with Obama and will not give him the support of 2008. There could be another percentage of Americans thinking Romney represents change and they will get a job, and another percentage, those thinking they are temporarily disadvantaged millionaires, that will vote for Romney thinking he will be the winning ticket to their fortunes.

Then, we have the racist and bigoted element that will not vote for Obama, and added to that the cheating and shenanigans used by republicans to win elections. ... plus Citizens United and SCOTUS that would gladly install Romney as president.

And, we have a percentage of Americans that just don't care anymore, that think the country is a lost cause, their vote doesn't matter, and that republicans and democrats are both equally bad. ... so their vote will be lost that could have helped Obama.

I don't think it will happen, though. Mitt looks less and less presidential by the day and Obama is looking better every day.

I'd say there is a 30-35% chance Mitt wins at this point.

If the economy is not good and they think merely elected Mittens is likely to help. That's the only possible way it could happen.

Even so, the debates will show the President is far more likely to handle things than Romney is.
