Pelosi: ‘Let’s Take A Look’ At Chained CPI

Pelosi: ‘Let’s Take A Look’ At Chained CPI

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said on Thursday that she would be willing to consider switching to a new inflation calculation, known as "chained CPI," for various entitlement programs such as Social Security as part of a broader package designed to reduce the deficit.

"In terms of C.P.I., I have said let's take a look at that," she said at a weekly press briefing in Washington. "What is it -- there are elements in our party, who have said that we can do this without hurting the poor and the very elderly. So let's see what that is. There are others who are objecting to it plain and simple. I have to say if we can demonstrate that it doesn't hurt the poor and the very elderly, then let's take a look at it because compared to what? Compared to what? Compared to Republicans saying Medicare should wither on the vine? Social Security has no place in a free society? These are their words. These are their words."

Strange, Obama now says deficits not the problem, Senate Democrats and the Congressional Progressive Caucus release budgets that accomplish the deficit-reduction goals without touching benefits, and now Pelosi decides that it's time to look at chained CPI? I mean, why isn't Pelosi "objecting to it plain and simple"?

Of course, that might mean you (Pelosi) and your husband might make a few million less per year, am I right?

The corruption in our government is just mind boggling. Notice the careful usage of the "very elderly" term. Meaning this would be phased in to screw most of us, but leave the oh-so-important elderly voters of now whole.

Generalizations like that don't work. We do know, from hard data, that the elderly do vote at a higher percentage than younger voters.

It may not be that way now but I don't know. Those seniors in their 70s, and 80s vote republicans because they watch Fox Ness.

Yes, there are brainwashed elderly. But also there are brainwashed younger voters. Both dominate the state of Georgia where I live.

I don't think screwing the elderly because they might vote republican is a good idea. It tends to make for a self-fulfilling prophecy.

... and WHO she will STAND with.

In a shameful display of "bi-partisanship" seldom witnessed in Washington,
Democrats joined with Republicans to protect the quarterly profits of their stock portfolios.

After receiving an extortion note that threatened their Banking Investments, it took them less than a week to hand over a $TRILLION DOLLARS to Wall Street,
no questions asked,
no strings attached.

They claim to have saved "The Economy",
and that is debatable.
What IS clear is that they saved themselves from having to pay their gambling debts.

Subsidies to oil companies that are making obscenely huge profits every month.

How about all those corporations that pay essentially ZERO taxes? Take a look at that instead.

Consider why millionaires, who could afford to pay higher taxes with no impact on their lifestyle, pay considerably less as a percentage than those who are barely scraping by. Millionaires would experience no impact in their comfort levels while paying higher taxes, yet lower taxes to the middle class and impoverished would mean the difference between doing without necessities or going deeper in debt to buy the necessities. In fact, it's literally the difference between life and death. Doesn't this seem back wards to you, Nancy?

While you're taking a look at these things, look into how much money we've wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan. The money that's gone missing. POOF! Gone, oh well... Lots of facilities we've built aren't being used, another WASTE of money.

Don't forget to take a look at tax loopholes reserved only for the wealthy, the fact that Medicare can't get competitive pricing on prescription drugs, and that millionaires have enjoyed tax cuts for over a decade, and have done NOTHING with them except pad their already bloated bank accounts.

And while you're at it, take a look at how much Social Security has contributed to the deficit. Oh, wait...I can save you some time there. Social Security hasn't contributed one single cent to the deficit. Ever.

Take a look at these things, Nancy, while you're trying to act like you really care about America's middle class and the rest of us who've been screwed over by Congress on the behalf of millionaires for the last forty years.
