How Chris Hayes' Show Differs From Other Sunday Shows In One Chart
New MSNBC Evening Host's Show Has Provided Much-Needed Diversity
MSNBC is giving Chris Hayes the network's 8 p.m. primetime weekday slot beginning in April. Hayes' current program, Up with Chris Hayes, has provided a beacon of diversity compared to the Sunday morning political talk shows on other major broadcast and cable networks, which overwhelmingly feature white men.

(37,305 posts)It's funny how the diversity within the program is supposed to trump that.

(63,912 posts)the result is a heady mix of race, color and gender diversity. I have learned SO MUCH from his show it's head spinning! Esp. on Middle East and African issues, where I am woefully lacking in information.

(6,719 posts)yep. White males -- over and over and over. And anchors talking to anchors. Diversity is not just gender and ethnicity. It can mean new faces!!

(37,364 posts)UP is so unlike any other show. It is an intense round table not put together with pundits and pols looking for a camera. He has serious discussions with those who actually do the work of governing and community organizing. What he does will not fit neatly into a one hour block of time.

(224 posts)Plus now he has to obey the rules that Cenk would not and not criticize Obama. Probably Ed's newfound disillusionment with Obama is the reason he has been put in Purgatory.

(297,261 posts)of President Obama. Scott said he wanted to thank the President for the job he is doing and is proud to call him his President.
He also said he came out now because mitt romney was going around telling lies about the President and that romney had to respect the will of the people.

(2,667 posts)as much as I like Mr. Hayes, nearly as much as I used to like Rachel Maddow, I do not think the format of his sunday morning program is suitable to daily evening programming - but then that is also my complaint about what TRMS has become (3 topics stretched to the very limits of boredom and then repeated for days on end), which is to say hard to stick with for the full hour anymore.

(11,304 posts)much. But what I love it is a panel of grown ups with people respecting each other. Kind of like the beginning of MTP years ago. We need more shows like this where the issues are more important then who they have on a panel. I don't watch Sunday programming any more. It usually has the same people on them. I honestly think they are geared to the republican side or I think MTP is.

Might be a nice slot for Ed.

(67 posts)I love UP on the weekends. The format lends itself to exploring several sides of an issue. While I am happy Chris Hayes will be on nightly, I will truly miss UP. Nightly shows just do not cover stories the way two hour weekend format can. I taped UP each week so I could watch it at my leisure and really follow the discussions. The show will be sorely missed.

(1,451 posts)Rachel and Chris (and MHP) have the most informative shows on MSNBC. No doubt, viewers will learn a lot... but the downside is that the extra knowledge comes with a side of depression as we're forced to see how fucked up this society is. 8pm is a huge timeslot and most casual viewers settling in after a long day of work will want to be entertained with light left-leaning commentary, humor, and GOP mockery. Those viewers will not want to be overwhelmed with details. Rachel's personality is naturally funny which takes the edge off, but it still can be a downer at times.
