I saw on older photo yesterday when he was a Cardinal and he was holding one of those round cups (silver in color) and I couldn't figure out what the heck it was.

But I love "mate cocido", which is made just like tea, but with "yerba mate" instead of tea in the bags. I can get it here in NJ in a big Latin supermarket that has food from most of Latin America. I get the "dulce de leche" there too.

I went to high school in Buenos Aires (my dad was a diplomat). I love the city and its people. I still go there regularly, I was there last September for my school's yearly alumni tea. I went to an Irish school. Argentinian are mostly of European ancestry, so it's no surprise that the Pope's family is from Italy (half of the surnames in the phone book in Buenos Aires are Italian.

So far, I like what I heard about this pope. He seems to be a humble man.



Here he is earlier today paying his hotel bill in person.
