Nine lives or one
it has certainly been long for Wadsworth, who is the worlds oldest cat after turning 27 or 125 in human years.
The cat, known as Waddy, didnt have the best start after being born the runt of the litter and was even thrown out by his owners.
His life began to turn around when he was adopted by 66-year-old Ann Munday in Ravensden, Bedfordshire when he was just four weeks old.
Ive always had cats, but he is an absolute dream and he has been a fantastic companion since my husband died 13 years ago, she explained.
He was a tiny and very poorly little thing so its a miracle he has survived.

(2,566 posts)I've been the caregiver of a few cats over the years, the oldest one I've ever had lived to be 18.

(826 posts)24+ Bobtail, had no natural tail, put to sleep last year. We could not be definite as she was tamed and living on our property when we bought it 13 years ago. She was sweet and gentle but going through awful pain from arthritis.

(34,393 posts)Tuxedo cats seem to have iron constitutions and the ones I've had have been really healthy. I've got one now who is 19 and he's in great shape. And, yes, Waddy DOES look like a total badass, LOL.

(20,450 posts)to learn how to use the litterbox. She's still the smallest of the clan (the rest are with family and friends, so I see them from time to time). The only worry is that doctor thinks she may develop a heart murmur, but she's had no health issues apart from that. May she live a very long and healthy life.

(146,312 posts)Pretty amazing, I thought. She wandered into my life at about a year old, having had her first litter and being abandoned. When she died, I buried her under the bird bath where she used to lie in wait for birds to visit. She didn't catch any, because she was completely visible to the birds, who avoided the bird bath when she was there. Ever hopeful, though, it was her favorite place.
Good kitty!

(12,287 posts)I thought the 20's were normal for cats? I had one live 32 years and most of my other cats have lived into their 20's. I thought they were normal? After all what stress does a house cat have? They sleep, eat and exercise every day of their lives.

(20,818 posts)reach that age. I've never heard of a cat making it this long, let alone 32 years.

(12,287 posts)20 - 25 is normal since all my cats have lived between 18 and 22 years of age. Tom the one that lived 32 years was part Maine Coon, maybe that makes a difference since they are huge and more bear like.

(4,079 posts)We were never sure of her real age because she and her brother (litter-mate) came with the house we bought. Her brother died about ten years ago, but Arnie (yes, a female named Arnie. Long story.) just hung around. She outlived other cats who have come and gone, and she was the sweetest kitty ever.
She started developing a brain tumor, and we had it removed but it kept coming back and always got worse than the time before. Finally, it was clear that the tumor was causing her some serious pain, and she stopped eating. We had to put her down. It was one of the few times I've ever seen my husband cry.

(20,818 posts)The oldest cat I ever heard about was 22 when he died, which was rare. Of all the cats I've ever had, only two have lived past their 18th birthdays. One I had while growing up; I was thirteen when she was born (in our basement, to one of our other cats at the time) and 31 when she died, in that same basement (she went down there two weeks after her 18th birthday and refused to move from the spot she'd chosen, which wasn't far from where she was born. She stayed there for several days, before dying early one morning. It was bizarre how she did that, it's as if she knew where she'd been born and that was why she'd chosen that spot). The second one I got from a shelter seven years ago, she was twelve at the time and her owners had had to give her up due to family allergies. I had her for seven years, before she died on Christmas Eve morning; she was nineteen.
I wish I knew this woman's secret for keeping the cat going this long, as I wish my cats could have lived that long!!!
