Rand Paul & NRSC Embrace the Crazy- So much for the Reds cleaning up their act...

Last edited Thu Mar 14, 2013, 03:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Remember a couple of months ago when the Republicans said they needed to tone down the crazy?

Well, how quickly they forget. Not content with crazy, they are endorsing the scummiest the right wing has to offer. Just in time for CPAC the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), through Rand Paul, have announced that they are co-hosting Blog Bash. BlogBash is a criminal organization, run by convicted felon Ali Akbar. Jeff Dunetz who is their spokesman is a sex predator.

They are giving awards or checks at Blog Bash to legendary pornographer, pimp, rape apologist and scam artist Lee Stranahan, (Anyone remember Steubenville? Lee Stranahan does- he was there defending the rapists.) Islamophobe Aaron Walker who published the Muslim hate blog, Everyone Draw Mohammed that was used by radical Muslims to recruit suicide bombers to kill Americans, and to Robert Stacy McCain who is an avowed racist who was fired by the Washington Times for being too radical.

Check out the list of Blog Bash sponsors, including Boehner, Ryan and Cantor. http://www.blogbash.org/sponsors/

The PR for their little party is being handled by the same folks who brought you Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (Remember them?) and one of their major funder is the Texas Public Policy Foundation- a far right Christian fundamentalist think tank with ties to the Koch brothers.

Their award ceremony is Thursday, March 14th at 7pm at Bobby McKeys Piano Bar at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD. (That's right- not at the Gaylord- CPAC didn't sponsor the event) and as of this moment, several big name Republicans are possibly showing up...

UPDATE 1: Blog Bash's official video of Rand Paul's endorsement:

(Watch it while you can, it may be coming down soon...

UPDATE 2: Blog Bash's internal correspondence leaked at Breitbart Unmasked:

Some great tidbits about subjects not to mention to Republican big shots (GOProud, SOPA/CISPA etc- good stuff)

I wouldn't mind if they went crazy if they weren't so damned hateful. Why can't they be cool? freshwest Mar 2013 #1

It's been a long and circuitous story -- but this goes back to 2010, when there was sniping on Twitter between members of Anonymous and some of the more hysterical Tea Partiers. By 2011, that had escalated into a blog war that got increasingly nasty over the course of last year.

But to see the NRSC aligning itself with an extremely marginal and sometimes even criminal bunch of right-wing bloggers is disturbing in a number of ways. Not only are the GOP senators getting down into the mud in a way that many of them may not fully comprehend, but it suggests that their Tea Party wing is already setting the stage to fight out the 2014 campaign on the lowest and nastiest level imaginable.
