What changes to Catholic liturgical music should we expect ...

...to accompany the new pope?

Perhaps, CHRISTUS VINCIT as a tango?

Given Pope Francis's involvement with Argentinian dictators, incorporation of Nueva canción is unlikely.

Will the changes be as substantial as those that occurred with Vatican II, for example,...

This author was tweeting complaints about this earlier. His diocese in Argentina is apparently known for some lively and fairly charismatic Masses, full of guitars, people raising hands in the air and jumping around and the like. One plus about the guy in a sea of negatives as far as I'm concerned (as someone who goes to a progressive charismatic evangelical Protestant church.)

In the Catholic Church charismatics tend to be fairly conservative. However, lots of Catholic charismatics in Mexico, so I assume South America too.

Brahms: Ein Deutches Requiem.

Brahms was an atheist, but his secular requiem is one of the greatest choral works ever written. This is music which transcends belief in a god. Whether you believe in god or not, this is really good shit.

Britten: War Requiem.

No other British composer in the 20th century had an impact as Benjamin Britten. His War Requiem is a revelation, so to speak. Another atheist, like Brahms, he brings the kind of awe that religionists bring to the table in an atheist context. And like Brahms, he uses the Requiem to do it. This is an absolutely astounding work. The best recording of this features Peter Pears in the lead, Britten's lifelong lover, with Britten conducting.

Great shit here!

... the church gets rid of the strangle-hold that Oregon Catholic Press has on American parishes.

OCP's compilations of cringe-worthy music is a blight on the land.

Here's a very good article on the subject.
