(11,075 posts)but Keith has ticked off a lot of people over the years. He just settled his lawsuit with Current TV, so I assume he's free to work without any restrictions.

and it will be wonderful to have something to watch on the weekends - good on Big Ed

(75,480 posts)There is no news on the weekends because they don't report it and no one really is at home except shut in wall flowers like me.

I hope it's not Ezra Klein (too boring).

(13,390 posts)He gets interviews with our friends AND enemies who he shreds. Ed always seems to just bring on friends.
Martin works with the WH correspondent in real time. I can't imagine him wanting to give that up. I would love for them to replay his show.

(75,480 posts)I first discovered her during the Clinton scandal days on CNN. She had to bat the harpy Baye Buchanan down in those days and she was brilliant and funny doing it. I guess she was too much for them and they canceled the show after a year.

(5,044 posts)I also think that Soledad O'Brien is ripe for a pick up. Chris Hayes show should be tweaked as well, I just think he is someone that needs a much bigger spot light.

(10,942 posts)I would hope for Joy Reid or Alex Wagner. Al Sharpton's show is lively enough.
I think Chris Hayes could be good, but it might seem like two hours of Rachel Maddow to some.
I can't see the return of Olberman. He did pull in ratings, but I don't think it's enough to offset his salary + lawsuits + antics.
I have a feeling it will be Ezra Klein. They certainly hype him enough, but not my favorite.
Just PLEASE not Scarborough, Chuck Todd, or anyone from The Cycle.
I don't think anyone currently visible is actually a good fit for the time slot. Both Olberman and Shultz were there to appeal to appeal to a specific audience -- middle age, middle income, white, male, sports fanatic, middle America. I honestly don't think anyone there fits the bill of being both left leaning and providing the same style of appeal that those two did.

(9,314 posts)He said he works 14 hours a day, including his radio show. He said he would never give that up. He always wants to be on the radio. Thinking about his wife's recent illness, at least he could spend more time with his family.
He also said the two hour format on the weekends give him more time to do the type of show he wants to do, for instance shows like the ones he did in Wisconsin. I can understand that.

(10,942 posts)The network takes on local news, which can be a winner for MSNBC if Ed uses his interviewing skills and brings in good guests and good stories. But MSNBC avoids taking 60 Minutes, at least until it finds out how popular Ed can be in his time slot.
Raine1967
(11,589 posts)I'm really surprised, but I was wondering how long he could keep doing his radio show and the TV show. Those are seriously long days.
I know, I was as surprised as anyone when the phone rang. But who am I to say no?
Tx4obama
(36,974 posts)Ezra Klein & Chris Hayes (to me) are not at all very exciting.
They are good as a fill-in but I for one would not watch them.
I'm just praying they pick someone that is worth watching every night.

(34,136 posts)Sorry, but that comment annoys me. I don't like Ed Shultz' greased hair, Tweety's yellow hair, or any number of hair styes of other TV show hosts, but I don't watch them for their hair styles so I ignore them.
If a broadcaster is competent why should their hair or their makeup or the clothes they are wearing keep you from watching them?
Tx4obama
(36,974 posts)the way her hair keeps falling forward on the right side of her head/face annoys me and I found that I couldn't concentrate on what she says because I'd be watching her hair swaying back and forth.
So, the best thing, for me, was to just stop watching her show.
As far as Ed and Tweety their hair doesn't sway around when they are talking and moving their head

BlueStreak
(8,377 posts)over and over for 5 hours. Anybody who has MSNBC on for more than 7 minutes a night needs to have their head examined because that is the entire information content, regardless of who happens to have their name on the marquee for that hour.
(Sometimes Rachael is the exception to this rule, but not very often these days. At least on her show, while rehashing the same damn stories that have already been covered 25 times, she might actually present some relevant facts. The others just rant for an hour and then go home.
A total waste of time, IMHO.
If Ed has a different format on the weekends, maybe his show could actually be a lot better. At least he won't be following Tweety and Rev with the exact same stories every time out.

(9,314 posts)That makes sense to me.
Commenting on other posts here, Bashir was the first person I thought of. He is great but is kind of wasted at that 4:00 time slot.
I did briefly daydream about Keith Olbermann, but I don't think that would be in the works on either end. One of the reasons he wanted to leave was that he thought when NBC took over and Comcast had more influence, his commentary would be reigned in. I thought he was correct in thinking that; looking at some of the characters they have now on MSNBC confirms it in my mind.
I do love Ron Reagan but some reason over the years no one offers him a regular slot. He is brilliant in a way no one else matches. But perhaps he doesn't want a regular full-time slot?? I would think because of his name, he might attract some Republicans, though not the right-wingers!
What about Jennifer Granholm at 9:00? I guess Elliot Spitzer is available as well but Granholm would be a better selection than he.
Ezra Klein would be a wonderful permanent addition; but somehow I don't think that is going to happen.
I like Bill Press too but I don't think they will give it to him.
