grief for the death of their 'dear leader'. Which is why I am forever grateful that burning a flag in this country is not only allowed, but a guaranteed right. There are, as we see each time this issue arises, always going to be those who would like to take that right away, as has been tried many times, but so far, the right has remained. Misguided emotions are a real threat to our freedom.

It puzzles me that people who claim to so respect the flag do not see what a tribute it is to what the Flag symbolizes, that people can do this and if there is ever a time they cannot, then we should be truly concerned, and for good reason.

How right the FFs were when they advised the people that their Constitution would only last as long as they could defend it. It becomes more and more difficult to do that.

Edited to add, poor guy, not being sufficiently 'patriotic' in a nationalistic society can be a dangerous thing.

And I see another guy in the photo who doesn't look terribly thrilled with all that patriotic fervor. Wonder if he was noticed and sent to some gulag or another. At the bottom of the screen, over at the right side, two rows up, fourth person in from the right, he's wearing a cap and doesn't look too happy.

saying it's just a piece of cloth are among the posters who get so upset when they see another piece of cloth displayed, namely the Confederate flag. It seems like a flag either means something or it doesn't.

I'm not condoning or condemning either practice, just making an observation.

Be somebody not covering their heart during the singing of the US national anthem? Or is the Nazi context just too good to pass up?

This man suffered REAL consequences for his opposition to the regime and the fact that he was married to a Jewish woman. He spent time in prison and was later placed in a penal unit during the war, where he apparently died. How many people are going to go to prison for failing to condemn a flag burning? BTW, when you're in an argument on the internet and you're portraying your opponents as Nazis and your own side as Nazi dissidents, you've pretty much lost the argument right then and there.

And let me point out, again, that virtually 100 percent of DU believes flag burning is protected speech, even if not everybody thinks that it's a great idea to actually do it. Some people seem to be condemning it solely on the grounds that it reflects poorly on OWS and detracts from the movement's ability to sway public opinion and effect positive change.
