Fox News guest Zerlina Maxwell: ‘I refuse to be silenced’ by conservatives threatening rape

Democratic strategist Zerlina Maxwell on Monday said she would not be silenced by vulgar insults and threats of violence, and would continue speaking out against rape.

“I’m certainly taking steps to protect my emotional health, but I will not be quiet because I refuse to be bullied into silence,” she said on MSNBC.

During a segment on Fox News’ Hannity, Maxwell suggested that the onus of preventing rape should be on men rather than women. She warned that suggesting women should carry guns to prevent themselves from being raped could easily devolve into a victim-blaming mentality.

Conservatives who viewed Maxwell’s remarks as hostile to gun rights took to social media websites to express their outrage, with some even saying she deserved to be gang raped and killed.

More here...

Republicans are sick, sick people. Especially the gun nut types.

Do they think a 10 year old should be carrying a gun to and from school to protect her from rape?

As a four-year-old, I should have had a gun. Since I didn't, I guess it was my fault, right, Reeps?

She is absolutely right. The focus should be on the criminal, not the victim. Bless her for speaking out.

I also think Maxwell's rebuttal that women in the military, most of whom have access to guns, are also the ones most at risk of getting raped is very true.

How on earth is gun rights going to protect children from being raped? Or how will it protect women and men from being raped by their friends, their co-workers, their families? After all, most rapists know their victims. Do they expect children to carry arms whenever they're alone with their dads, their parents' friends? Do they expect women to carry guns at work - everywhere? If those who think guns are the best answer to everything cannot see the idiocy in this, they are clearly saying that theirs are not opinions worth listening to, let alone debating.

If it did, you'd be darn certain the rich would have made it impossible for anyone but the rich to own one.

And Stalin didn't die from a gunshot, he died of a stroke. There are theories that he was poisoned, but the evidence still points mostly to stroke.

She should not let these idiots shut her down. I am glad someone finally went on a national forum and said this--that teaching young women how to avoid rape is only half of the equation. We also need to teach young men how to avoid committing the crime, to respect woman, and that a woman's body is not public property.

It does not matter what a woman wears, what she eats or drinks, where she is, or what time of day it is. The choice to rape comes down to the person who does the rape. Period. We must end the social attitude that tells men that certain women are "fair game".

Zerlina Maxwell is absolutely right, and I stand by her.

But then, it's exactly what we have come to expect from righties. Hate, prejudice, fear, threats, violence, and greed defines them.

Unfortunately, teh gun culture culture and The Delicate Flower mental illness that goes with it, crosses party lines.

He is pretty smart, normally. When the subject of guns comes up, he devolves into 'Hitler' this and 'Obama is a dictator' that and all sorts of mindless talking points.

Guns = stupid.

Not appear on it, not watch it. Because Hannity does nothing to stop this from happening - in fact, passively encourages it.
