"The fact that there's a brother in the White House is just so unsettling to so many people."

UPDATE: Voter ID bill set to pass (VIRGINIA) House on Wednesday
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/virginia-politics/2012/jan/31/1/at-capitol-rally-nearly-300-decry-voter-id-bills-ar-1652900/

Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones said the bills were specifically targeted to suppress the vote of "those who turned Virginia blue in 2008," when President Barack Obama carried the state on his way to victory.

"There are some nefarious things going on that cause us some grave concern," Jones said. "The fact that there's a brother in the White House is just so unsettling to so many people."

Civil rights leader and former executive director for the NAACP Benjamin Chavis also gave a blistering speech calling the proposed legislation "arrogant bills introduced by arrogant politicians.'

Chavis said the proposed changes "represent the old South" and "lynch democracy."

It's an unnecessary precaution, and even if some think is has become necessary, it's definitely not something to be rushed into without a lot of careful thought.

The right to vote is constitutional issue. It should not be thrown into sudden disarray through hasty legislation. Think of the disabled and elderly, victims of paralysis, the blind, students living in a state other than where their driver's license was issued, women in a battered women's shelter. They'll all need to jump through extra hoops in order to vote.

These issues can potentially be overcome, but it's going to take time, preparation, AND MONEY to do it in a manner that protects everyone's rights. The pukes are trying to rush these horribly ill-planed laws into place for 2012, when in fact, there's no urgent need to do so.

Its not the good family man he is
Its not the great first family we have today
Its not the knock down smile
nor the gracious manner he carries himself
Its not the goodwill he spreads as he travels the world
Its not the good ideas he has for us as a group going forward
Its not the hard work he's engaged in daily to help make our lives better
Its not the fact he is working to lift everyones boat, rich and poor alike
Its the fact he is occupying the seat that up to now was reserved for the rich white man, with maybe a few exceptions to the rich part
but none of that matters because in their eyes he is of the wrong kind of good hard working well liked intelligent man because of his skin color. 1963 hasn't gotten here yet sad to say. 49 years and very little progress when you look at the big picture.

As I grow older I find myself hating on my white brothers and sisters because of this so in your face racism I'm seeing and
I never really knew the feeling of hate until the bush/cheney years. Now its been replaced by todays feeling of love I have and all I see is hate all around me and its mostly because our President is nothing more than a black man, his only crime I might add. Not because he's a bad person with bad ideas mind you, its all because of his color
So sad America
So freaking sad where we are as a country

To be honest about it I'm embarrassed by who we are today. I thought by now we would have turned that page on racism, now I wonder if we ever will

I love my President and first family, so pure of heart so sweet as persons, so wonderful and delightful. A true American story

Boy, have you ever got it right!

This is almost poetic - submit it everywhere you can think - get this story told!

Don't let the fuckheads make you hate them. That is what they want. Don't give them that satisfaction.

Pity the motherscratchers like they have an affliction. Because it is a sickness. Believe me on this one.

Take this from someone who is getting older too.

- and Chavis must have forgotten that Virginia had the very first black governor in the United States with Governor Douglas Wilder in 1990. We proved long before any other state that we were willing to vote for a "brother".

With regard to the pending legislation, a Photo ID is NOT required. A social security card is sufficient ID and you'd be hard pressed to find someone without a social security card. If you lose your card, you can get it replaced without charge. I know as I've had mine replaced. Twice.
