he people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC's daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.

According to the source, the show's resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn't popular with TV audiences.

PHOTOS: Best-dressed TV hosts

"The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing," the insider tells Us. "People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed."

and can hold an interesting and cogent conversation. I don't have a problem with that. But when a Con is mean and condescending AND stupid, well, that's a huge turn-off. For example, I don't mind S.E. Cupp on "The Cycle". In fact, she brings in a perspective I might not have thought about since I don't think like a Con. Hasselbeck, or whatever her name is, proved there is such a thing as a "dumb blonde".

And just for clarification's sake, I've claimed that it's okay to be mean and condescending, but I didn't mean to say it's preferable. I know it's an acquired taste; to have to listen to people who discuss things with a mean and condescending attitude and tone, but usually among the dreck, one can find a nugget of food for thought here and there. It's never a bad thing to try and find out what the opposition is thinking and how they come to that conclusion. It can be quite interesting, even.

I guess I also had kind of forgotten about it. I haven't watched it in years. And, didn't watch it often back when it was on my radar.

They'd have to change a lot more than Elisabeth. I can't say any of them really resonated with me. I liked the idea of the show, more than the show.

Oh, well. Another filthy rich individual just found some extra time on her hands. I guess the others (also lacking for nothing financially speaking) will have to find another pet conservative to fill the void. I can't say I'd shed a tear of any of them decided to exit. But, I'm not a follower of the show.

I would prefer a show that found 4 or 5 average people from around the US or the World and ask them their opinion on current events, honestly. Truly. Just grab a random group of 4 or 5, give them the power of the television screen. Pay them handsomely for that day. And, then send them on their way. I wouldn't want a moderator, either.

That's the point of view I'm interested in.

Although I am not crazy fan of Lizzy I think she should stay of the show. We have to hear from both sides. Fri Mar 8, 2013, 07:25 PM
Mar 2013

It's her idea, her intellectual property, and she has full creative control when it comes to the program.

The Behar-Hasselbeck fights were always great for ratings...but since Joy is leaving, having that wingnut scold around might not be so much fun.

I really think they need a spanish speaker on that panel...someone from PR or a first or second generation American with family ties to Mexico or Central America...it's not a very wide scope, this "View"--everyone's over fifty except for the wingnut and the not-smart comedian who thinks the world is flat because the bible told her so. And those two "young" reps are a disgrace to their generation, both of 'em. Hell, bring back Lisa Ling!

Something might have happened that was the final cut for Hasselbeck, if the rumors that she was fired are in fact true. It might have even happened off camera. Maybe it happened while Barbara Walters was recovering from that head clunk at the Embassy, the night she caught chicken pox from Frank Langella's shingles (Langella, as an aside, is a former paramour of Whoopie Goldberg--they had a thing for a long while...!).

Someone will tell, eventually...

It's been one hell of a long time coming, but ability of the 1% to fool the 99% is starting to wane. The natural progression of pushing things ever further to the right resulted it the teabaggers getting a voice. We as a nation looked, and have seen how bat shit crazy they truly are. Now it is becoming acceptable to point them out. The nonsense that they spout is becoming recognized as such and becomes less marketable. It can't be long now until there is a voyeuristic "reality" show (ala the Honey Dumbass family) featuring the conservative ravings of the right wing.

Whether it is that disorienting spinning camera or her snooty, irritating fiction that is the most irritating. I gave it a choice as I used to watch Ratigan, but decided to stop watching it. I found most of the kids on the show, who only were exposed to growing up in the Reagan years, a bit conservative in their thinking also.

At best, MSNBC is centrist, or a right-of-center network.

enough of the credit, and all of the blame, too. She knows her reputation is tied up in the program, so she doesn't brook much dissent, and who can blame her. If she wants to fold the tent, I think she has enough control to be able to do that. She is co-executive producer with Bill Geddie, who says he's there to get a laugh (modestly, no doubt). She is co-owner with the network, ABC:

Bill Geddie, the co-executive producer, is the lone recurring male persona sometimes shown as stepping out from behind camera to interact with the hosts. In an interview with Broadcasting & Cable he stated: "I'm not an on-air personality and I think anybody who's seen me realizes that. But early on, the network thought it would be kind of fun to see there's this guy here in charge, but if you watch the show, you see that generally speaking I’m a side player and I’m basically there to get a laugh."[7] Mostly five women discuss current issues and news items ranging from social and political issues to tabloid headlines and celebrity news. Walters, "a co-owner (with ABC) and co-executive producer" of the show,[8] likely has final decisions as to the casting of her co-hosts.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Leaving 'The View'? Us Weekly Reports Co-Host Is Being Ousted
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/08/elisabeth-hasselbeck-leaving-the-view_n_2838942.html

Elisabeth Hasselbeck is being fired from "The View," according to Us Weekly.

Quoting anonymous sources, the magazine reported Friday that the conservative co-host is following Joy Behar out the door after market researchers found that her political views were clashing with the audience. That report followed a Deadline piece which said that her future on the ABC show was "unclear."

Following Us Weekly's report, TV Newser posted a similar story. The site's Alex Weprin cited two sources who said Hasselbeck was leaving. A spokesman for the show told Weprin that Hasselbeck has a "long-term contract."

If Hasselbeck's conservatism is a problem with audiences, it would appear to be a relatively new one...Hasselbeck's departure would mean that "The View" is suddenly without two of its longest-running hosts. The show has had the same cast since 2007, when it brought in Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd to replace Rosie O'Donnell and Star Jones. Hasselbeck's exit would also leave the show without one of its main sources of conflict; her political arguments with Goldberg and Behar have long been a key feature.

She mentioned about consistently trying to convert her to Christianity when talking about that new bible movie on cable. Elizabeth kept going on how Barbara should read her kids' picture-book bible because it made the stories so easy to understand and follow. That could have been the last straw.

Barbara is becoming increasingly senile and slow, constantly having trouble keeping up with the conversations. Lots of talk of her being too old and should retire after her illness. To have Elizabeth insult her to her face like this was probably way too much. Here the little pipsqueak she created is telling a woman who has interviewed every major head of state that she should read a picture book so she could understand it.

This story of "market research " being the reason for her exit seems so fishy, I think Queen Barbara (lol) was sick of her. From clips Ive seen of the View online, its gotten to a point on the show where this underling was cutting Barbara off and talking over her, a big contrast from when I last legitimately watched this show in the last of Star Jones and Rosie's entrance & exit days.

Elisabeth should have been fired early on when she equated Gay marriage to bestiality.

On a side note I also think maybe Elisabeth Hasselbeck's marriage is over and she doesn't want to be on television waving the all too familiar hypocritical family values flag every week, while being divorced. I mean evey time the Hot Topic covered a notable person that wandered from a marriage and cheated, Elisabeth would become extremely vocal in disdain for the cheater, as if she had a familiar background in this department.
