and look what vivienne is wearing...a red potato sack...bwahahahahahaa
Vivienne Westwoods harsh tongue keeps getting her into trouble.
The British designer, 71, who criticized Duchess Kates style and makeup earlier this month, has now taken on our first lady. In an interview with The New York Times, Westwood while discussing her upcoming Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum took a few jabs at Michelle Obamas wardrobe choices, much to the reporters surprise:
The New York Times: You must love our first lady, who is famous for recycling her clothes.
Westwood: Dont talk about her. Its dreadful what she wears.
The New York Times: What?
Westwood: I dont want to talk about it. Really, I cant. Shes a very nice looking lady, but its a nonstarter regarding clothes that suit her.

(30,947 posts)there that I would wear. How could she possibly criticize Michelle's style when her clothing designs are so hideous.

(8,646 posts)something you could find on a rack anywhere. Basic dresses, pantsuits, skirts - everything is pretty 'normal' looking, nothing is stunning. She must have an enormous ego and is maybe po'ed that Michelle has never worn her boring clothing. That's my best guess for the lash out. She seems like the narcissistic type that would do that.

(12,325 posts)SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meets in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress
Or softly lightens o'er her face,
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek and o'er that brow
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent. (Lord Byron)

(32,086 posts)But, Ms. Westwood needs to look in the mirror before she criticizes Mrs. Obama's style--or that of anyone else, for that matter. And, I'm not just talking about her fake orange hair.
On edit: Run her name through Google Images. GOOD GAWD!!!!

(39,961 posts)altogether it's awful, but the individual components absolutely suck, too. The pouf in the back, my GOD those horrid shoes, the sack dress and the blue glasses. My word. Just wear a hefty bag, flip flops and 4 sunglasses and you'd probably turn out looking better than that.

(21,691 posts)A lower platform and I would totally wear them. I also have a terrible sense of fashion which is weird, since I've won design awards (graphic design).
I'm very picky about shoes. I'm a lover of boots of all types. I don't care for open toed anything - well, except for very tasteful shoes. Platforms aren't the problem either. Those are just ... icky. All kinds of wrong for my taste.
I don't think I could strut properly in those. That's a must for shoes in my book

(2,515 posts)This is the fashion industry.
The exist by a stamp of approval or disapproval of celebrities and/or other 1%ers like it actually matters.
What really matter is most see the First Lady as classy, elegant, yet earthy and very relate-able to an American public that has not seen it since Hillary was first lady.

(75,480 posts)Red hair often clashes with red clothes just like in the picture you posted. She hasn't given it a thought. And she criticized Kate? Kate is always beautifully and tastefully dresses as future queen would be. Thank god she doesn't emulate her husband's grandmother and dress like her in frumpy dumpy. I love Michelle's clothes and I would wear them myself if I were tall like her.

Nobody dresses perfectly every single day.. but on the whole Michelle Obama has a wonderful style all her own.. with the help of JCrew, Jason Wu, and other Clothesmakers.

(59,440 posts)If I was that lady, I wouldn't be talking about anyone's looks or fashion sense given what she's wearing and how she looks in that photo. Just goes to show you can have supposed "style" and completely lack class. ETA: and taste, too.

Vivienne, is that hair on your head, or did your hamster die? I like the way you dress, Vivienne; what did you do with the rest of the curtains?

(39,961 posts)I had to read that again. She criticized Duchess Kate, too? Holy hell. I'm assuming that unless you look like you've been on a heroin binge for 5 days and crawled out of the sewer, you pretty much have no style in her opinion. Ugh.
No thank you. Healthy is a good look for any woman, and if she doesn't like either of those ladies, well, judging by how her own models look and how she looks, that is pretty much her preferred style - gutter chic.

(19,497 posts)Her beauty and her stature compliment and build upon each other. If there is any issue with her fashion it is a comment on the overly self-congratulating -- yet undeserved -- nature of "fashion." That Mrs. Obama looks as awesome as she does in these pics proves she is the one person who can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
I wish I could throw the curves she does in that jogging suit.

(14,881 posts)wear fire engine red? AAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!
Although the choice of a "sack" is good in that it does drape nicely to hide her real shape.
Then there's the hair "style" on the designer? Ummmm....that's how we look when we step out of the shower or the ocean or lake. Not by choice. AAAACCCKKKK!!!!!!
