In Gresham, Oregon, the answer is,Yes.
Particularly if you take a strong stand against bullying.
his article came out yesterday , about Principal Tom Klansnic's anti-bullying program:

And today, we learn that Principle Klansnic's contract was ended on the same day as the anti-bullying article was published.

(45,319 posts)States it is fully legal to fire a person or refuse them employment or housing because they are or are thought to be LGBT. Imagine what goes on in those 29 States....at least here there is recourse. "Klansnic's attorney, Judy Snyder, said she and her client are preparing to file a lawsuit against the Gresham Barlow School District for discrimination and retaliation." Can't do anything about it in 29 States because there is no law against firing a person for being gay in those States.

(52,266 posts)it's virtually impossible to perform most jobs, from janitor to electrician to teacher to lawyer to doctor to treasurer to sales to whatever without getting hard when a woman walks by or wet when a man walks by.
on a more serious note, a few states and municipalities have enacted such protections, but sexual orientation is still not protected at the federal level regarding employment situations.

(10,572 posts)A common misperception is that, like my reader's question says, they mean an employer can fire employees for any reason or no reason at all. Right-to-work laws have absolutely nothing to do with this. What you're talking about here is at-will employment.
Every state but Montana is already an at-will employment state. At-will means your employer can fire you for any reason or no reason at all. Whether your employer doesn't like your shirt, wakes up in a bad mood, or just feels like it, they can fire you at-will unless you have a contract or union agreement saying otherwise.
A union can bargain to change this. Many union agreements have requirements that employers only terminate for just cause.
