Rand Paul's Filibuster Got Him Almost 3,500 Twitter Followers an Hour...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) had approximately 96,000 Twitter followers when he began his filibuster just before noon Wednesday. When he finally finished speaking almost 13 hours later, his follower count was sitting pretty at slightly more than 141,000 — a total gain of approximately 40,000 followers, or a bit less than 3,500 an hour.

Paul announced his filibuster on Twitter, then his staff got to work highlighting tweetable quotes from his speech. That, combined with other lawmakers and citizens' support for Paul's filibuster and related hashtags, helped drive the event into the national spotlight.

Rand Paul Mulling 2016 Bid

Riding a wave of publicity following his epic filibuster of John Brennan, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) admitted in an interview published Thursday that he is considering a presidential bid in 2016.

"We're looking at it very seriously," Paul told Politico. “I think our party needs something new, fresh and different."

And people think the filibuster was about drones.

It was about Rand. It was always about Rand.

filibustering because of drones.

Makes a person go

Maybe Democratic leaders should start studying DU for ideas, no?

No sense in letting the opposition beat us up and take away our lunch money.

This was the last time it will happen. I will not vote for any pro-NDAA tool in 2016.

Some football player's girlfriend recently got 90,000 in under 3 hours. That's 30,000 an hour. Charlie 'winning' Sheen has 9,080,170 followers on Twitter. Not to mention this:

"The practice of buying Twitter followers (or Facebook fans, Instagram followers, etc.) is as old as social media itself, hinged on the archaic notion that quantity trumps all in the social interaction sphere. Some of the most well-known politicians and celebrities in our social strata are accused of puffing up their own numbers with these followers."
