Charles Robles' dramatic testimony on Feb. 12 was among the key moments in the House Judiciary Committee debate and helped persuade members to approve an amendment to increase the proposed limit on ammunition magazines from 10 rounds to 15.
But a witness to the shooting, news stories of the 2002 incident, an autopsy and a police report that quoted Robles' own account of the robbery in Tempe, Ariz., tell a very different story.
It's one that calls into question the key point he shared with lawmakers: That he needed all 13 rounds to save his life....

(95,248 posts)Even an honest man can get things jumbled up in a situation like that, and memory re-arranges itself each time you recall a thing. He has been dining out on this for quite some time, it seems, so it probably is how he honestly does 'remember' the events by now; at least, that is the courteous assumption.
It is good he is getting hung out in public as a fabricator, certainly. People need to learn to take anything a gun fetishist says about using weapons in self-defense with several shakers worth of salt, and this will help drive that home.

Now, it is understandable that in the heat of such a moment it's easy to get carried away, but aren't our "pro gun progressives"* always assuring us that the average "RKBA enthusiast" is a well-honed bullet-spraying machine, ready, willing and able to play the role of Free Lance Cop at the drop of a Red Dawn DVD?
If it turns out you're gonna need 13 rounds in a home/business defense situation, you best get on the horn to the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, not pull out your PRD and start blasting. Better yet, buy a shotgun: hard to miss with one of those. I should know: I own one.
