Beating up the gays because their poodle is pink
Last Friday in Beaverton, Oregon...
David Beltier was with his boyfriend, Jeremy Mark, walking their poodle, Beauty, whose fur is dyed pink with Kool-Aid, down Northwest 185th Avenue when a dark blue SUV passed them. The male driver yelled anti-gay slurs toward the couple, calling them "un-American" and adding, "That's not right for that dog to be that color," Beltier, 26, said during a telephone interview Monday.
After traveling by them, the man flipped a U-turn in his 1997 Land Rover near Northwest Town Center Drive. A bad feeling washed over Beltier. He dialed 9-1-1.
"When he made the U-turn, I knew this was not going to end well," Beltier said. "He burned rubber. He sped up. There was no way he did not want to attack me."
The man stopped his vehicle, jumped out and ran toward Beltier, swinging at him twice and striking him once in the shoulder, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Washington County Circuit Court. Beltier said he blocked blows from the man, who continued to utter anti-gay slurs.
The man, whom Beltier and his boyfriend did not know, went back to his SUV, grabbed a pair of bolt cutters and struck Beltier once behind his left ear, court records say. Witnesses started honking as they drove by and yelled at the man to stop, Beltier said.
