WikiLeaks reveals imperialist plots against Venezuela

WikiLeaks has published over 40,000 secret documents regarding Venezuela, which show the clear hand of US imperialism in efforts to topple popular and democratically elected leader Hugo Chavez.

The documents, which date from July 2004 to December 2011 and which were published through WikiLeaks twitter account @wikileaks and which are now available on WikilLeaks Global Intelligence Files online, are based on emails taken from the private US-based intelligence company, Stratfor.

This company claims to provide analysis for multinational corporations looking to invest in Venezuela, and uses a number of local sources to develop their reports. However, their emails prove that their motives and objectives are far from independent, and they are working as an intelligence and strategy agency for those looking to develop suitable political conditions for economic imperialism, exploitation, and intervention in the country.

I'll acknowledge something like this if there is evidence to support it but this link has nothing but unsubstantiated allegations. Why not name the individuals if there was an actual 'coup' in progress?

They have an extremely lousy track record when it comes to coups, coups attempts, financing coups, invading, occupying and financial terrorism.

The disappointment I have in my country's government truly saddens me.

16. Yes, but I wouldn't count on it. Our government was already behind the attempted

coup of a democratically elected president, Chavez, chosen by the Venezuelan people, in 2002. They were exposed, especially Condy Rice who foolishly made comments before she realized the Venezuelan people went out and foiled that coup.

Since then the usual far right suspects in that region of the world have been backed in their efforts to try to discredit, smear, overthrow etc any Democratic leader of all the countries that have finally regained their sovereignty after decades of oppression. Chavez is a hero there. The man who began the taking back of those countries, who took his own country out of debt to the World Bank and the IMF and reduced poverty and illiteracy by 50%, established equal rights and education for women etc. This won't do though for the Western corporate interests. He dared to use Venezuela's resources for Venezuela's people. And we all know that the major Oil Cartel's are not happy about that.

I'm sure that plans are already in place to try to steal Venezuela and its resources once again. I only hope that Chavez and all those who supported him had time to do enough to ensure that the region remains free from brutal Corporate control.

RIP Chavez. He will be badly missed and not just in Venezuela.

I have no doubt Stratfor is engaged in nefarious activities but unless I'm missing something, the Wikileaks documents don't contain a smoking gun.

If you want to convince me our government has done some immoral things in the past -and probably continues to do so- you don't need to try hard.

But as for Chavez and Venezuela, I see no evidence of overt interference in their affairs.

The whole idea of black ops is to remain covert, never be seen, never be identified. The reason we have "covert" operations is because they are illegal!!

There is a global secret war going on, in case you have not heard. It is entirely political, directed at killing political opposition world-wide. And this is not something new, but it is covert. Seeing "evidence of overt interference" is not part of the plan.

A friend who works in intelligence once joked that Stratfor is just The Economist a week later and several hundred times more expensive. As of 2001, a Stratfor subscription could cost up to $40,000 per year ...
