Too bad that concern didn't extend to the people of North Korea, Syria, and Lybia.
Of course, those are probably just corporatist lies, right?

(10,942 posts)I hope there is no truth to the claim.
BTW;
Tx4Obama is a legitimate poster on this site who is not prone to throwing around wild claims. I await more information about whether Chavez accumulated over a billion in personal and family wealth. I personally have concluded that he spent a lot more on the poor and unfortunate, but the personal wealth is disturbing.

(82,383 posts)Not to accumulate that kind of wealth. A sincere one, anyway.

(113,376 posts)up that claim. and I love the slant of "chavez family and OTHER criminal organizations", again, with no evidence to back it up.

I would expect this from the usual hacks that frequent the Latin America forum but I would not have guessed you.
Sad.

I have no clue if it is true or not but I thought I'd post the link for anyone that was interested in seeing it.

(10,942 posts)Chavez directed more of the country's wealth to helping the poor in his country than anyone before him had. He ran for office for the right reason, he was upset with how the poor and powerless were being treated in his homeland. But Chavez is also a cautionary note on how extreme power can corrupt a person. Chavez could have made real tangible change for poor people in his country and would have been beloved, but Chavez chose a path of brutality mixed in with some good works. If Chavez has focused on good works and installed people who would make those good works operate efficiently, his right-wing detractors would have melted away, ignored into nonexistence by the people of Venezuela.

(53,661 posts)I don't think his power go to his head, but survival made him change some plans. I mean, if people were looking to kill me and my vision for my people that I felt was why I was there, I'd take steps to prevent it.
Venezuela was abused by corporations for resources before long before he got there. The global push to ru take the wealth of the region is ongoing, if not increased now.
The Latin American countries have a history of repressive oligarchies that never released their claim to control the indigenous or aboriginal peoples. Prier to European colonization, the natives of the areas had their own wars and differences.
American history or rather the USA version is not as complicated as many areas of the world. That's why I don't feel qualified to defend or accuse anyone down there. And my Spanish is almost useless. So myself, like many other Americans, are clueless on the truth of Venezuela and its leaders.
JMHO.
