27 months and he isn't even in jail yet pending appeal

27 months, 2.25 years, that is all aiding and abetting kidnapping nets these days. http://journalstar.com/news/national/pastor-sentenced-in-vt-lesbian-custody-case/article_e850088d-b786-51f5-8ccd-e1776eae3714.html

A Mennonite pastor who helped a still-missing woman and her daughter flee the country _ and a custody fight with the woman's former lesbian partner _ joined his supporters in song Monday after being told his 27-month prison sentenced could be put on hold while he appeals his conviction.

Kenneth Miller was still wearing his prison jumpsuit when he left federal court in Burlington and met a crowd of about 100 supporters who came to Vermont from as far away as his home state of Virginia.

"I am grateful for the mercy of God," Miller said, before joining his supporters in singing a hymn, "Our God, He is alive."

During a two-hour sentencing hearing, Miller told U.S. District Court Judge William Sessions III he couldn't promise he would not commit again aid in international parental kidnapping. Last summer a jury found him guilty of helping Lisa Miller and her now-10-year-old daughter, Isabella, travel from Virginia to the Canadian border and then on to Nicaragua via the Toronto airport.

end of quote

He did the equivalent of opening the window for the kidnapper of the Lindberg baby. He delivered a child to a bigoted Central American cult where god only knows what kool aid that child is drinking. The mother of this child has no idea where she is, how she is doing, if she is alive, if she even knows that her mother is looking for her. And for this, the pastor got 27 months, 2.25 years and he isn't even in jail yet. Thousands of people have gotten minimum 5 year (over twice as long terms) for having 5 grams of crack (17.5% of an ounce). For having crack weighing as much as a nickel, one could go to jail for 5 years. For keeping a child from her mother until the end of time and having no remorse at all, 27 months, for having 5 grams of crack, 5 years. To be fair it now takes around 28 grams to get the same sentence. But really, just who is more worthy of jail, a religious zealot who abets the kidnapping of children, or a crackhead with a few days supply? Rev. Miller will be in jail for less time than he was in high school or seminary. He will be in jail for less time than it takes to pay off a car. Meanwhile, his victims will go on being harmed by his actions day after day, month after month, year after year, decade after decade.
