Montgomery, Alabama, Police Chief Kevin Murphy . . . . . you are an extraordinarily decent man.

I just saw the clip of him using the occasion of apologizing for his predecessors and then giving his badge to Congressman John Lewis.

Thanks, Chief!

At his age and knowing that he recently lost his wife, we really need to recognize his place in history while he is still with us. I very much appreciate the police chief's gesture..

and important. Just saw him on Rachel Maddow. Amazing, and as Dr. King said it's always the right time to do the right thing.

apology is good to, but I have to throw a nugget in there. The demographics of Montgomery Alabama has changed since the 1970s. It was over sixty percent white back then and 34 percent Black. Today, it is over 57 percent Black and only 34 percent white. The rest are also minorities. It is a microcosm of the changing Demographics in America. It could be something due to the environment that he is a product of. I understand he wasn't even born. It would be like apologizing for the Confederacy.

Teaching how the department has evolved, using their own notorious history. Imagine what that training would be like in NYC or LA
