National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre trashed the mentally ill on Monday while suggesting it is a gateway to government-mandated weapons confiscation.
Its a speed bump for the law-abiding, he said in an interview with Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney. It has no effect in the real world on stopping crime or keeping mental defectives from committing horrible acts.
LaPierre also said that background checks would be selectively enforced and abused.
Youre creating a registry of all the law-abiding people in the country that own firearms, he said. I know the politicians say, Hey, well never use that list to confiscate. Thats a pretty darn tall order to believe a promise from people in this town right now.
More here...
A speed bump for the law abiding? Gasp!! Cant have a 'speed bump' now, can we Wayne? Why with all those tornatos and riots and gargoyles and stuff...

(54,770 posts)That might actually accomplish something in long-run.
You can't give a bunch of yahoos lethal weapons and say they can do what they want right up until they shoot somebody (or a lot of somebodies).
Instead, we'll do nothing substantial and in another decade yahoos will have 100 million more guns on the streets and in their weapon caches.
Sooner or later, we are going to have to bite the bullet and do something substantial, no matter how loudly the poor pitiful gun cultists whine.

(11,464 posts)So this person has come out of the cave and gone public with the rantings.
He is sweating heavily.
He sees the writing on the wall.
The two elections in a row that the Mayors against Guns have heavily financed had a pro-gun candidate ousted in the democratic primary by an anti-gun candidate.
He is scared. They are scared.
Because they know they are next.
So this nut job has to do his own dirty work now, instead of getting his team to blackmail all candidates.
the NRA is dead. They just don't know it yet.
The sad part is how many people will die til it occurs, which may take 3 or 4 cycles still.
But it is happening and cannot be reversed.

(118,334 posts)Speed limits, for example, don't work. The law doesn't stop people from driving too fast: people speed anyway. So why should I as a law-abiding citizen be forced to drive at speeds less than 100 mph in a school zone? I heard speed limits are one of the ways Hitler came to power. It's time to abolish speed limits
And what about laws against murder? These laws don't stop people from killing each other. Why should I as a law-abiding citizen be subject to these oppressive laws? Besides, the number one weapon used to kill people nowadays is the toaster oven. Look it up: more people die after being battered to death by toaster ovens than all other causes of death combined! Now you want to take away my toaster oven, too? Let's abolish these archaic laws against murder
Face it. Laws don't work. They only oppress law-abiding citizens. It's time to get rid of them all
