in the declining years of a great empire. Unfortunately, that empire is still behaving as if it were at its peak.

What absolutely will destroy us in the end is the insane military spending. So long as we spend as much as the entire rest of the world combined on our military, there is no hope. That kind of expenditure is completely unsustainable, and totally dwarfs things like medicare and medicaid. I am sure that if we cut our military budget down to something sensible, whatever that might be but I'd start with half of what it currently is, we could have Medicare for All, lower full Social Security benefits at age 62, underwrite all or almost all college. And so on. But as a nation our priorities are completely off.

It's sad.

Yes, I know the republicans did much of it, but we stood by in glassy-eyed wonder as we gave our lives to a new drony//insurance company healthcare/we do not have to explain America. We are now just as guilty as we accept and say it's better if a Democrat does it; you know, the things we would be screaming like banshees over if Bush did it.

Really, what is OUR excuse? We stood by as millions of people are out of work, and the banks are doing fabulously, thank you. We are sold in whole to HC company insurance companies for future horrors and a "who would of thought that would happen" situation that will rear its ugly head to come. What will we say when SS and MC is put on table? How do we explain our side when a dreary future of never ending debt and diminished opportunities is realized?

We are just as guilty and even more. When the cycle of business presented an opportunity to change, to have a brushfire to clear the dead wood, we just propped it up and burned the good fields. Now we have a situation where business can never fail, are stronger than ever in getting what they want, and people are the victims.

So no, we do not get a pass.

involving a lot of bad decisions through the years; decisions made not for the benefit of "The People" but for the benefit of those making those decisions and their cronies.

People used to blast the corruption of Soviet bureaucrats but I doubt they were much worse than Republicans (and some Democrats).

That's when the black robed junta threw off the shackles of law and precedent. That's when they twisted themselves into pretzels trying to make a logical argument to get their buddy in the white house. And that president was even worse than Raygun. That president was the worst president in the history of our country. See how badly 9 unelected kings make decisions.

The Republican'ts have shown that they are paid by the wealthy to continue
to feed more and more money to big business - KNOWING - that the middle class
need more money to stimulate the economy and still there are asshats that vote for them!

We need to get Clinton back on TV and splain to these idiots what they're doing to themselves
and the country as a whole.

and

We need to push the idea as soon as possible, that we will run Hilllary and Elizabeth for 2016
and let their feeble minds figure out what their lives will be like after we get them into office.
THEN, maybe, they'll look at Obama and figure they don't have such a bad deal right now!

We actually have a lot to look forward to - don't we?

I think we are still evolving and at War with ourselves. Our history as a country intriques me. I listen to voices of the Past and I think we are still trying to define ourselves in this country. I don't know if Colonel Chamberlain actually made the statement in the film during the Civil War, but there was one moment in the film when he made a speech to Union soldiers about why they were fighting that War. It was about the land and every man being equal. That really stuck to me. I think we are still fighting for that dignity. No matter how much money you have or who your father was, we are all equal in this Country. Some people do not think so, and it is a continuing battle. So when I hear someone say they are worth more than me because of wealth, I totally reject it. So I continue to look towards our past and why people thought things mattered for what actions they took. I think our real role models should be the people that fought and died for the freedoms we have today. I admire the stance the radical abolitionists took when they were in the minority and for what it is worth, I admire John Brown.

We used to as citizens be able to have conversations about important issues and have the facts matter. Our congress used to follow procedures that channeled people through the process to get laws that worked.

Now there is so much inflamatory garbage out there, propoganda to stoke the fear base that you can barely get a few words out and some people have their talking points rant dumped over your head and celebrating the victory of their position because it was louder and nastier so therefore "more real" than puny facts.

Congress can't be bothered to show up for work half the time, much less do the work of the people when they are there... at least the rethug side.
