Bred for brains not looks.

DId I tell you that my border collie was so tired of trying to communicate with me in dog, it started learning English = the best word she learned though was Home. One day I was visiting someone and we were late for her dinner, and I hear a noise, look up and my dog is standing over her leash saying Home - I have witnesses on this one. My friend freaked out.

She knows:

Time to eat

Want to go out side / Want to go for a walk

Do you want a treat

No

All of her nick names

bath

mommy

daddy

Sarah

no bark

no bite

wanna play

where is {name of person} then she waits by the door for them.

sit

stay

lay down

scoot ( what I tell her when she is in my spot)

In addition she remembers the voices and smell of every person she has ever met. She knows how her "dad's " car sounds. She will bark at strangers, but usually not the neighbors. The cutest thing is when the weather is bad and I try to get her to go out the front door she will back up and then go to the back door. She looks so confused when the weather is the same out there as it is in the front.

outside, walk, mommy, no bite, no bark, no bite, lie down. But she refuses to stay or sit.

Mine is usually, but sometimes I have to use the voice. I really hate doing that she looks so sad when I do, but then she does what she is told. Off topic sort of, but she also has this weird thing when I ring the doorbell she comes even if she had refused when I just called her.

I worked her for a long time. The way she pronounces it is "How" but it definitely means she wants to go out. Every few weeks we practice so she remembers.

She's three years old, half Cavalier King Charles spaniel, half American Eskimo.

She's an Australian Shepherd, and they are strict with her and make her behave. We were visiting and there were about 7 adults in the kitchen, getting ready to go to the barn to see the horses. We were getting on coats and scarves, and Ella went and stood waiting at the back door. My friend glanced at her and said, just conversationally, with no gesture or anything, "I know you don't think you're going out that door first in front of all these people." Ella looked at all of us, like "Oops..." and then turned immediately and went to stand behind the last human in the room!

We probably only have to talk in code in front of her about half the time, lol. I can't find a way to refer to a ball that she won't understand that my husband does though.
