Good. Sequestration could end military flyovers at NASCAR and

other sporting events.

Military flyovers are a staple at NASCAR events and at the Daytona 500, but those might become a thing of the past and at other sporting events nationwide due to a substantial amount of military spending cuts.

http://www.sportsworldreport.com/articles/11162/20130301/sequestration-2013-possibly-end-future-military-flyovers-nascar-events-government.htm

And here's an added bonus; Freepfucks freaking out about it:

I love the fly overs at NASCAR. They give you goose pimples and make you proud to be an American. Will they be replaced with a parade of muzzies on camels? Wouldn’t surprise me. Nothing does anymore.

It’d be nice to have a regime that likes Americans again. You notice they’re trying to orchestrate these cuts in ways to make it hurt us (the people) the most?

Just de-fund TSA and we won’t have to let illegals out of prison.

Maybe the Muslim Brotherhood can thank our suicidal generosity to them by having a flyby from the Egyptian Air Force.

Why are taxpayers paying for this benefit to private businesses anyway?

If the Pentagon thinks that is a great way to show what a big, powerful and expensive military we have, maybe they should reconsider. Maybe they should start thinking of all the things they do that are wasteful of our tax dollars. Maybe it isn't terribly smart to put on such a display of wasting tax dollars at the same time so many people are struggling just to stay in their homes and have food to eat.

....flying over your heads to MAKE YOU PROUD...what a bunch of CRAP. Maybe the military should tell NASCAR we will continue the practice but it will cost you.

Those airplanes are going to be in the air anyway...might as well make it a show.

I have to agree that de-funding TSA is a dandy idea.

quite frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing them go away, but that's just because I'm not really into such jingoist displays. Then again, I see flyovers every damn day driving home down the South I-15.

Unless you're being shot at.

Yes, they are "extra" flights in that they are scheduled for that particular time and place. But not extra in the sense that at some point that pilot would have put that time on that aircraft.

Every pilot has to fly a minimum number of hours within a specified period of time--30 hours every 60 days for example--to remain "current".

Whether it's over a Nascar track or a football field is all the same to them. This is a non issue.

Just the cost of the fuel should have made this practice obsolete years ago. Also, the Air Shows need to go away, at least the actual military planes...privately owned, no problem.

I get that pilots need practice, but really, do we need all these air shows? (BTW, I love Air shows, but times are hard now)

The military wastes enormous amounts of money doing these PR stunts. As far as the posts who say that the pilots "need practice", they should have combat practice, not flying over a race car track or football field.

They are high-speed low-altitude passes timed to the second with something happening on the ground.

That IS the very definition of combat practice.

I believe NASCAR may have sponsored a race car, so the issue may be bigger than just the flight.

Given that the pilots do need flight time to stay proficient, I am sort of ok with these flights.... a bit of marketing for recruiting.

The goobers griping about the flights the President's family takes should also consider the pilots of POTUS flights gain flight time for skill development.
