You don't have to be an English major, or apply a "masterful" approach to the language to use basic English grammar, spelling, punctuation and apostrophes.

If you want to come on a discussion board, which uses the written form of communication, and make some philosophical or political point, it is advantageous to use proper language. Otherwise, your message loses some focus and credibility. Sorry, but that is just the way it is. Maybe you should try some other form of communication.

to understand the basics, and you're poor-pitiful-me approach impresses very few. Your father, if he was indeed illiterate, had an excuse - though it is doubtful that he was posting on Internet discussion boards.

You, on the other hand, are not illiterate. You are lazy and full of yourself. Substantive comments require substantive posts. Your post was meaningless to anyone but you - why would most even attempt to respond to what you said. You up the ante by a no-doubt deliberate refusal to write coherently and then whine when you are called on it.

Or at the very least, abrasive. It's all good, though. We can always use someone new to either offer insights or provide new arguments.

As for what appears to be your main point, it's difficult to know what corporations are doing what to whom. I work for Nestle Purina at this point. They are an excellent corporation to work for. But they are also very large and some segments of the company do or say stupid things, such as when the CEO or whoever it was said that people don't have a 'right' to have water.

So it's not so easy to simply 'disown' a corporation that sometimes sounds stupid or even does stupid things.

Otherwise, the destructive corporations would all be gone. Most of us have busy lives and don't want to sift through the enormous maze of corporate malfeasence to figure out basic things like where to buy bread.

Sure, we could find the time. But most of us have families and full time jobs and other activities and so we pretend that there's nothing else we can do.

What can truly help matters, however, is better regulation of these corporate behemoths. It's Congress who allows things to get out of hand and it's Congress who can level the playing field.

I hope we're on the verge of more than a sea change with the continuing weakness of the GOP.

Fri Mar 1, 2013, 12:04 PM
Mar 2013

was the point of my whole thread. Many folks are too busy, but maybe if there were some friendly reminders about friendly companies to patronize than we could start to break a destructive corporate structure. We cant continue to weaken the GOP if we continue to feed their bank accounts. The rant by the CEO of subway is what started this thread. In light of his attitude I imagine many democrats will still stop at subway today. It doesn't matter that the Waltons will continue to use their wealth to destroy education, teachers by the tens of thousands will spend their money there today. Result, we gain nothing do to our own behavior.

He also spoke about how the ACA and minimum wage will destroy the bottom line of subway stores. Typical billionaire hogwash. I feel the only way we can fight these people is with our pocketbooks. Too many see the problems, but refuse to attempt a solution. We cant keep allowing our dollars to be used as a weapon against us. Our own spending habits are leading to our demise.

Fri Mar 1, 2013, 12:44 PM

How many other CEOs have gotten involved with making public statements and then were forced to hang their heads in silence when the public excoriates them for it?

The Chick Fil-A CEO springs to mind. The Papa John's CEO is another.

Find their Facebook pages and add your disapproval to those that are no doubt already there. They usually end up looking foolish because shareholders don't want controversy.

And yes, it is typical billionaire hogwash but it's usually because they lead spectacularly unfulfilling lives and want to jump into a controversy to make themselves look relevant.

I call it Donald Trump Syndrome (DTS).

Do you know where the food comes from in local grocery stores or restaurants? Do you know where local stores get their merchandise? Most likely 'no' in both cases. so, unless you grow your own food and weave your own cloth, to make your own robes (can't use sewing machines), you have no way of knowing who profits when you buy something.
