I'd always thought (and been taught) that voting was a 'right' of citizens.
Even a responsibility.
Not an 'entitlement'.

(5,756 posts)There was a time in the ugly past of the US when Italians and Irish were discriminated against for jobs, housing, etc. Too bad Justice Scalia seems to have forgotten that.
And that minorities, sadly, still need the protection of laws in 2013.

A "Help Wanted" sign.
My grandmother lived in Florida for a few months in the 1920s (while grandpa tried to make his fortune in the Florida land boom and failed miserably) and reported seeing this sign in an 'Apartments for rent' building.

(25,771 posts)there's nothing wrong with calling it an entitlement. They have done their best to denegrate the language, but if you have a right to something are you not entitled to it?
