Los Angeles (KTNV) -- A drug resistant strain of tuberculosis is plaguing downtown Los Angeles.
It's gotten so bad, the Centers for Disease Control is launching a coordinated effort to contain the outbreak in and around Skid Row.
Government studies said nearly 80 cases of tuberculosis have been identified in Los Angeles County and 30 have been from Skid Row since 2007.
It's having a major effect on the homeless people in downtown Los Angeles and the shelters they stay in.
The director of the county's public health department said it's the largest outbreak in a decade and they're putting all their resources into fighting it.
This is scary. I have read about XDR TB (Extreme Drug Resistant TB) that is supposed spreading in Africa and is killing quickly. Humanity may have to start dealing with our old enemies once again who have come back stronger. The germs are evolving.
