1. pretty lousy year anyhow

for movies. I see a lot of movies, and nothing good recently that I can recall. Zero Dark Thirty was a snooze fest and over-hyped nonsense.

3. It was an awful year. Worst ever, imo.

I saw every nominee except Les Miserables. ( Didn't particularly like the play so..... what was the point ?)

They were.. almost without exception... trite, cliched, formulaic, politically safe and *boring*.

Closed it out with with DJango Saturday nite. Glossy, repellent, repulsively and sickeningly violent, $$$$-making bullshit. Ugh.

Best movie I saw all year was the Israeli-doc "The Flat"... which I don't think was even nominated for anything. In fact... it's really the only one I even remember.

The awards show was snoozefest too.

I think I actually was entertained by last year was "Snow White and the Huntsman", which was no masterpiece for sure.

During his “We Saw Your Boobs” song Seth MacFarlane listed off women who’s breasts he’d seen in their movies. As if this isn’t grotesque enough four of the instances he listed were scenes of rape or the character was raped during the movie.

13. Surprise, shock, and poor taste...

...are regular features of humor. I assume that the producers could have hired Disney writers if they wanted that.

I have to say, though, that the humor was self consciously over the top. It was almost tongue in cheek with its outrageousness. It was sort of vaudeville and old fashioned in a refreshing way.

...we recognize the outrageous aspects of it. A good thing.

It would be far worse if the audience simply agreed with the joke and applauded, "Yes, Seth, excellent point, women are indeed like that!"

20. The actresses there were in on it. The "reactions" were pre-recorded.

They are wearing different dresses. It was still sexist and stupid, and the point on four coming in depictions of rape is well taken. But, the reactions were pre-recorded, suggesting the actresses themselves get the joke.

really cute but about 11 years old. Did you see Ted? I was sure it was written by an 11 year old. I remember when my brothers were that age. I wanted to kill them. I'm pretty sure my mother did too. OTOH, my youngest brother was funnier than Seth.

7. There were some truly cringe-worthy moments...

But I'm gonna play devil's advocate on a few of these, just for some context:

1) the boob song- part of a segment where host is being shown glimpses of himself from a future where he's called the worst Oscar host ever. The "target" of the joke, IMO, was the host, not so much the actresses.

2) The Selma Hayek joke was that this is the moment in every award show where Selma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, or Javier Bardem show up and we can't understand them but don't care cause they're so attractive. So it does also objectify a man as well.

3) The Aniston/Stripper thing: IIRC, the host jokes before Aniston/copresenter Channing Tatum (who is male) that of the next two presenters, at least one is honest about being a former exotic dancer. Tatum was one- his experience as a stripper was part of the inspiration behind the movie Magic Mike. Yes, the joke is that Aniston was/may have been one too, but Tatum's presence does, for me, somewhat change the tone.

Just my 2 cents. Some of the jokes (both on that list and off) were in poor taste. Other moments were really funny. I also do think context and who the "target" of the joke is makes a difference in what's offensive. (And if it matters to anyone, I am female)

Given the host, I was expecting some of this sort of humor and I wasn't amused by all of it but I wasn't horrified or offended either. (But then I mostly liked "Ted&quot .

Loved the "Flying Nun" bit he did with Sally Field.

I give much more leeway when the humor is well constructed and delivered, which it definitely was, so it becomes something like a "smart foul" in basketball.
