Sunday Talk Shows

ABC This Week
House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Mike Rogers and Foreign Affairs Committee ranking member Rep. Eliot Engel join ABC News' George Will and ABC News Global Affairs Anchor Christiane Amanpour to debate how the U.S. should respond to the cyber threat from China, and the latest challenges in Syria and Iran.

Then, the political roundtable debates all the week's politics, with George Will , Democratic strategist and ABC News contributor Donna Brazile , TIME Magazine contributor Steven Brill, author of this week's cover story "Bitter Pill" on rising health care costs; former Lead Auto Adviser and Counselor to the Treasury Secretary Steven Rattner and Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel

With automatic spending cuts just days away, how will the economy be impacted if Congress and President Obama can't come together for another last-minute deal? As President Obama reaches out to Republicans on immigration reform, will the GOP face more blowback at home over making a deal? And as Vice President Biden keeps his focus on guns, are we any closer to a vote on gun control legislation? The roundtable debates those topics and more, including their Oscar picks, Sunday on "This Week."

Meet the Press
As the nation's governors meet in Washington, we'll get the view from the States with two leaders of their parties: Gov. Deval Patrick and the Chairman of the Republican Governors Association, Gov. Bobby Jindal . How do issues like taxes, spending and the economy impact their states? Plus, Governor Jindal weighs in on the future of his party and what needs to be done to revamp their message to voters.

What do the looming spending cuts mean for the nation’s crowded skies? How will air travel and airport security be affected? What should travelers expect? We’ll talk with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood

Just days before automatic spending cuts go into effect yet no deal is in sight. What happens to the economy if Washington can’t agree on an alternative plan? Plus, the political prospects for the current fights in Washington over guns and immigration? Our roundtable weighs in: Fmr. Democratic Congressman Harold Ford; Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan; Host of NPR’s Morning Edition, Steve Inskeep and CNBC’s dynamic duo Maria Bartiromo and Jim Cramer

CBS Face the Nation
Sequestration, immigration and guns: View from the states

How could sequestration impact key federal education initiatives? Secretary of Education Arne Duncan

Senators Kelly Ayotte and Tim Kaine will join CBS Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett to talk about the looming sequester and the problems it could pose for the nation's budget. Garrett warns that, while the White House and Congress differ on how to effectively curb spending, "this sort of gridlock will continue, and we're heading towards sequester."

But how will it affect the states? The sequester promises severe budget cuts around the country, so in the midst of the National Governors Association Meeting in Washington this weekend, Governors Martin O'Malley and Bob McDonnell will talk about how rolling cuts will affect the East Coast, while Jan Brewer and John Hickenlooper will discuss how the sequester could hurt their home states in the West. As Garrett observed Friday, "If the stalemate, continues, peoples real lives will be affected." How are the Governors preparing for budget cuts due to the sequester? What are they doing to prepare for upcoming Affordable Care Act deadlines? What kind of federal gun control or immigration policies could they support?

Then we'll have a discussion on the impact of violent video games on children plus how to improve our gun laws related to mental health. Is there a connection between video games and gun violence? CBS News' Bob Orr reported this week that law enforcement sources told him Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza was motivated by violent video games and a desire to kill more people than notorious Norwegian mass murder Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in Norway in 2011. We'll talk with Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Penn., a psychologist who specialized in treating at-risk families and children exhibiting violent behavior before he was elected to Congress, National Alliance on Mental Illness Executive Director Michael Fitzpatrick, Parents Television Council President Tim Winter former FBI profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole and Texas A&M International's Chris Ferguson

Plus, a look at the politics of sequestration and what to look for before the deadline for the automatic, across-the-board spending cuts is set to take place on March 1. We'll talk with National Journal's Nancy Cook, Washington Post's Scott Wilson and CBS News' John Dickerson about that and more.

Fareed talks to former CIA Director Michael Hayden and others about waterboarding, interrogation techniques, the ethics of drones, hacking, and more.

Plus, what are the Earth’s plans for defense against the next big meteor or asteroid? Do we even have one? Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has the answers.

And in What in the World, why a body of water the size of the Dead Sea has gone missing from the Middle East.

do the Republican House and Senate leadership call these Sunday shows and suggest which Reps/Senators are to appear, and give them their talking points for the week? Or do the Sunday producers decide which Reps and Senators will give them some sort of "scoop" on a particular issue and call them? It seems so...manipulated.

I get the feeling everyone knows what product is going to be delivered well in advance, it's all pre-engineered. Edit to add: and the round table stuff is just whatever conventional wisdom and talking points happen to be floating that week.
