Gun Owners of America president Larry Pratt appeared Tuesday on the Talk to Solomon Show alongside conservative blogger Greg W. Howard, of Twittergate fame, for another chance to spew anti-Obama conspiracy theories.
Pratt predicted that President Obama may begin confiscating guns in order to provoke a violent response to justify further oppression, which host Stan Solomon feared would lead to the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of people.
Pratt once again insisted that Obama is acting like King George III, a sentiment with which Solomon concurred, saying, That will happen quickly and they will wipe those people out to set an example.
But Solomon wasnt finished: I believe they will put together a racial force to go against an opposite race resistance, basically a black force to go against a white resistance, and then they will claim anyone resisting the black force are doing it because they are racist.
Howard agreed: You may be right because he has been sowing the seeds of racial hatred; we were healing quite well as a nation on racial issues until Obama came along and now we have a lot of racial discord.

http://gawker.com/5659351/twittergate-how-internet-jerks-pranked-the-tea-party
Oct 9, 2010
The best way to deal with jerks online is to ignore them. But when prominent Tea Partiers on Twitter started being harassed by a group of Internet trolls, they launched a twitter militia and concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory.
Twittergate is the hottest new conspiracy theory out of the conservative blogosphere. Yesterday, Glenn Beck's news site, The Blaze, posted an epic YouTube video which purports to expose a massive conspiracy by Democrats to take over Twitter: "DID DEMOCRATS HIRE A TWITTER-THUG' TO SMEAR THE TEA PARTY?" The Blaze asks. ...
Twittergate has sparked many sprawling blogposts outlining the conspiracy, and frenzied discussion on conservative message boards and Twitter. "Democrats PAY e-thugs to harass you," tweeted ResistTyranny. Democratic operatives exposed as the thuggish KGB to Obama's Kremlin! But also like a Glenn Beck conspiracy theory, Twittergate is utter bullshit. Although the truth is almost as ridiculous. ...
It all starts with a Twitter gang known as the Beandogs, a loose-knit group of dozens of Twitter users from all over the world, united only by a love of dick jokes and harassing strangers on Twitter. ... Beandogs targeted Greg W. Howard, the Glenn Beck of Twitter, after Howard spearheaded the takedown of a highly-publicized anti-Glenn Beck account called @murderglennbeck. ... So, the Beandogs started tweeting vulgar things about Howard's children and wife, spreading rumors about him and generally making his Twitter life miserable.

What does that mean? We were doing great until a black person got in a position of power? How is it healing if it only occurs so long as . . .
Can't even finish the sentence. This whole line of thinking is really hateful. "Sowing the seeds of racial hatred" I think means daring to be in a position of power while being black. "Racial discord" means something along the lines of people who are not white thinking they should have a voice and a part in our government. We'd be "doing great" so long as that kind of stuff didn't happen.

(2,730 posts)reality. President Obama got almost 40 percent of the white vote and over 70 percent of other minority groups. They consider the whites that voted for President Obama the enemy too. They call them Liberal communists. What they are espousing is no different than any other white supremacist group like the Klu Klux Klan. These people can not deal with the changing demographics of America. O'Reilly's rhetoric is no different either or Limbaugh.
The simple truth is no American is a second class citizen based on skin color but that is what scares these people. As an African American, I can care less about the color of someone's skin as long as I'm treated with respect and as an equal. That is what the President is really about. They don't like the idea that a Black person or anybody else can rise to the top office in this land.
To tell you the truth, I think people are talking in code and it is really about using skin color for
preferred status in this country. I see this through Foreign Policy and immigration Policy. Is this really about keeping unskill or criminals out or about keeping certain racial groups out of this country through a quota system? In the 20 and 21st century, you had a lot of European immigration coming through Ellis Island and now you have more immigration crossing the borders that are not European. I think certain whites are threatened by the shift. So it is not just about African Americans, but it is really about anyone who isn't white isn't it The problem;em with these certain whites, is that a significant portion of whites are not racists and threatened by someone's skin color. Their message is really tailored towards whites that are though.

I hope they fall out and shoot each other before they get around to visiting me, which they've promised to my face they will do someday. When the Repugs took the House in '12, a pickup load of militia stopped on the street outside my house, honking and hooting and waving their pistols and rifles. I went out smiling, waved, and took their picture. They peeled rubber and haven't been back. But they're still out there.

But they both died at 16 and now I only have a little yapper for a watchdog. I'm not at all sure she's a likely candidate for such training. Still I keep as close an eye on her as I can.
During campaign season the big wooden sign I crafted stood in the middle of the side yard in case anyone used it for target practice as threatened. I put a row of little American flags across the top in an effort to shame low-level bullies from throwing actual mud. And yes, I know that would be useless against the truly dangerous ones.
Did you read about the SPLC's recent report that militia groups are on the rise?
When I moved here, I still had an old joke card with FBI printed in bold letters on the top and 'Federal Bureau of Idiots' in small print at the bottom. One day while at the county offices I flipped through the other ID in my hands and placed the stack on the table with the top of that one showing so the clerk couldn't miss it, then as if it had been an accident I scooped it back up and told her in my calmest managerial voice, "Forget you ever saw that."
Of course the twit used her wild imagination and the rumor was all over town before I got home. My purpose had been not to gain favor or status of any kind but to discourage reprisals from certain people I knew would hear the most outrageous version of what happened. Although I MIGHT have pushed the envelope a little, it was not impersonation or I wouldn't have done it and I certainly wouldn't be talking about it in public. But by that time I'd learned - forgive me - how seriously dumb and gullible a lot of these people are.
By far my best layer of protection, though, has been a loud mouth about the worst things that have gone on. I'm prone to shout the news from the rooftops, not to mention the local weekly paper. Why the archconservative owner/publisher sticks his own neck out by printing my quarterly rants remains a mystery to me. I have to wonder if he's a cut above the usual around here. So by now anything that might go too far south for me would be hard for the militia to hide. I wouldn't go quietly.
To wind up this particular mini-rant, I want to point out that most of those militia wannabes couldn't even make it through boot camp in a real army. Most are fat-ass cowards. They think they're such bigshots and they are indeed dangerous, but I'd never give them credit for being anywhere near real soldiers.

(48,990 posts)From Time magazine in 2001:
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,94912,00.html
Nearly three years ago, as Sen. John Ashcroft was considering a run for the presidency, he composed a hand-written thank-you note to a man many politicians would run from. Neatly inscribed on Ashcroft's Senate stationery, the letter went to Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, a firearms lobbying group considered extremist even by many conservatives.
-snip-
At the time Ashcroft wrote to Pratt, the Virginia-based activist was already branded as a pariah even by those considered to the right of the GOP: Two years earlier, he had been forced to step aside as co-chairman of Pat Buchanan's presidential campaign after news reports of his association with leaders of the Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Nations and militias.
-snip-
From ThinkProgress last year:
As the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) works to distance itself from the NRA-bill it backed as a model adopted in dozens of states, it may be hoping that people will not continue to dig into the damage done by its long love affair with gun groups, like the gun-industry funded NRA and fringe groups with ties to white supremacists like Gun Owners of America (GOA).
GOAs Executive Director is Larry Pratt. In the early 1980s, Pratt and the GOA were outspoken supporters of the white rulers in South Africa during apartheid, calling a press conference in 1984 to present evidence that allegedly tied Bishop Desmond Tutu to an effort to violently overthrow the white minority regime in the country. In 1990, Pratt wrote a book titled Armed People Victorious based on his study of death squads in Guatemala and the Philippines, and advocated for similar citizen defense patrols in the United States. The idea reportedly caught on in 1992, when Pratt addressed a three-day meeting of neo-Nazis and Christian Adherents organized by white supremacist Pete Peters. He shared the stage with a former Ku Klux Klan leader and an Aryan Nation official.
Pratt also held leadership roles in ALEC for many years. His relationship with ALEC began in 1978, when ALEC began an effort to oppose a constitutional amendment giving the District of Columbia full voting rights in Congress. When Pratt was elected to the Virginia State Legislature in 1981, he took a leadership position in ALEC. He sat on ALECs board even after he left the legislature, serving as its treasurer into the 1990s.
Meanwhile, the organization Pratt helped lead shared his passion for relaxing guns laws. For decades, ALEC quietly helped advance key parts of the gun agenda, including not only bills that may protect vigilante shooters but that also lead to more armed people on the streets who may cite laws like Florida¹s so-called Stand Your Ground or Kill at Will bill. ALECs agenda is detailed at the Center for Media and Democracys ALECexposed.org. Even though GOA left ALEC years ago, it was a long-time member and leader. GOA leapt to the defense of Floridas law, ratified by ALEC, in the wake of the shooting of unarmed high school student Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman.

There is a huge market for people who go on the radio and make up crazy stuff to tell their listeners. Conspiracy theorists eat this stuff up and listen in large numbers.
There was always some of this around, particularly in the US but I place the blame on George W. Bush for how bad it has gotten. When the US Government is caught in so blatant a lie as the justification was for the Iraq war, it sets up the premise and question "What else is the government lying to me about?" Since it is virtually impossible to prove either way much of the time, those selling conspiracy were off to the races after Iraq.

I retired for financial reasons only to a remote corner of the MidWest, and half the people here are scared witless of Democrats in general, President Obama in particular. One poor woman whose elderly parents were both confined to nursing homes broke down in tears right in front of me because she thought Barack Obama was going to make the doctors pull the plug on her mom and dad. When her 'friend' started to scream, "That Obama! He's the very devil!" I slammed my hands down on the table and told her to shut the you-know-what up. She did, too, because I come from a military family and suffer from an inborn command voice which surprises people who've never heard it before, especially from a 5' tall little old lady. n. English term, primarily used in United Kingdom. The literal meaning is "bottom" or "rump"; aka backside, buttocks, sacrum, tail end. This lends itself to the slang meaning of "ass," or "clueless person of arrogant stupidity." It is not always directly translatable to American slang. For example, if you used the term "prat hat" in the U.K., you would likely be laughed out of town by the locals.
I can't believe what an overbearing idiot he is. What a prat!

a self-aggrandizing, pompous fuck. Someone who is full of themselves and, almost invariably, stupid as well. With a hint of 'deluded.'
"I'm getting really tired of listening to Vince brag about his conquests. What a prat."
I guess Larry's such a prat he needs an extra "t" for emphasis.

It should be apparent by now that 20-25% of the population is prepared to accept any crazy theory, as long as it casts Obama in a negative and fear-provoking light.
