"My 24-year-old son Alex was murdered in a movie theater in Colorado," Caren Teves said, according to KTVK. "These assault rifles allow the shooter to fire many rounds without having to reload. These weapons do not belong on our streets."

McCain responded: “I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States." McCain added that he is working on legislation that would keep guns out of the wrong hands while preserving the Second Amendment.

I don't know how he should respond to that question (assuming he is maintaining his position on the Assault Weapons Ban). A bit more compassion would be nice - then again it's possible that's a partial quote.

"My 24-year-old son, Alex, was murdered in a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.," a woman identified as Caren Teves told him (at the 0:50 mark of the video). "These assault rifles allow the shooter to fire many rounds without having to reload. These weapons to do not belong on our streets."

McCain responded, "I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States."

He could have said something like "I know you're grieving and want action to prevent another shooting, but this bill won't pass Congress."

The corporate media just can't get enough of Grumps McQueeg. I can't think of the last Sunday he wasn't spewing some bullshit on one Sunday morning waste of electrons or another. He knows how to play the beltway media and gets away with his lies and bile. He's a vainglorious, vindictive bastard whose punishing us for not electing him in '08. If the media types ignored him this country would be in a far better place...

That's not to excuse him....but it may explain the recent drop-off in his inhibitions.
