I've signed the petition to Cogress and printed out the jpg image as a photo and pasted it to my mailbox for the world to see. I received a thank you from the carrier. No other comments though because the people in this town are either clueless or brainwashed Teapers.

3. It's unAmerican and against the

"Founding Fathers" to be against the Post Office.

The Postal Service and Customs and Borders were sooooooooo important to the business of making America a country that their establishment was pretty much the first order of business.

I love how these Republicans cherry pick what the 'Founding Fathers' wanted to suit their interests. And it's very much in alignment with their philosophy of "We are anti government so we want to infiltrate the US Government and dismantle it one little brick at a time".

USPS is a huge brick they are messing with - kind of the cornerstone of HOW we do business as a country.

I'm part of business controls and supply chain with a major business. I'm telling you - about the time I would trust Fed Ex or UPS with anything that we have to send to the Fed Gov is about next to never. If I need to send a hard copy of an Import Dec to Customs in Newark or SOS in D.C. you can bet your ass I'm only trusting the USPS with it.

Because the two go hand in hand.

5. At some point in the near future

Sending a physical document in the form of a piece of paper is going to seem very quaint.

As for the Founding Fathers, they were all for "Letters of Marque and Reprisal", giving someone a right to commit what would otherwise be an act of piracy. They even mentioned them in the Constitution.

A lot of what the Founding Fathers thought was good has gone by the wayside. The Postal Service is on the verge of being one of them in an electronic age that the FF's couldn't possibly have imagined.

That's what we'll be down to in less than ten years. After all the old people who are scared to pay their bills or get their bank statements online have died off, that's what 99.9% of the postal service will be.

Congress should double the price of sending forest-raping litter with fossil fuels, that can pay for the USPS.

and others will finally get all the business.

All we have to do is pretend that the other half of internet sales is NOT shipping and is NOT growing even faster than the letters drop off!!

usps because they'll have more empty planes)...

and usps carries mail for them in rural and other routes that aren't cost-effective for them.

of the junk mailers subsidizing the cost of package delivery, didn't you pick up on that?

Once upon a time the Post Office, as it used to be called, was instrumental in delivering content, with "parcel post" being a side business. I used to be an avid stamp collector, and a century ago, there were even stamps issued that were dedicated specifically for this purpose.

Clearly, people now have other ways of finding out what others are doing, how much they owe, how to pay what they owe, how to order what they cannot buy in their local communities, and the information and entertainment derived from periodicals, music and motion pictures. This transfer from using the postal service for these items has created a sizable part of the problem of the USPS's current funding crisis.

I'm glad the USPS still delivers packages, and keeps the costs down by providing competition, in fact, I wish they'd expand what they can deliver. I get beer and wine shipped by UPS and FedEx on an occasional basis, I would like to see the USPS carry those packages, but they're now prohibited from doing so.

Why not have the junk mailers of America (who provide the vast majority of mail delivered to my home) pay the costs of running the rest of the system? Clearly, in an age of radio, TV, and the Internet, these astute businesspersons still find it of some value to have a way to scattergun their litter all over the landscape, without much accountability as to what benefit it provides (you know when and how you've solicited a customer through a click on a website), perhaps they should pay the lion's share of the cost of having the USPS there to haul dead-tree advertising with trucks running on fossil fuels.

What's wrong with my idea?
