Mother Of Aurora Shooting Victim Confronts McCain At Town Hall
TPM

Thursday Feb. 21, 2013

The mother of a victim of the Aurora, Colo. movie theater massacre confronted Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) at a town hall Wednesday, urging him to support a ban on assault weapons.

"My 24-year-old son Alex was murdered in a movie theater in Colorado," Caren Teves said, according to KTVK. "These assault rifles allow the shooter to fire many rounds without having to reload. These weapons do not belong on our streets."

McCain responded: “I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States." McCain added that he is working on legislation that would keep guns out of the wrong hands while preserving the Second Amendment.

Emphasis added by me.

He's probably right about the ban not getting through Congress (especially the House), but what kind of soulless, heartless, wretched, vomitous, gruesome, ghoulish piece of rancid flyblown shit tells a woman who lost her son in a massacre that she "needs some straight talk."

Oh, right, it's John McCain.

The pluperfect turd.

On edit...the crowd cheered him when he said it: http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/crowd-cheers-after-mccain-tells-aurora-victims-mother

if I was in her shoes. What an asshole response to someone who has been touched by the very violence these laws are trying to prevent.

I would have called him the coward that he is for being tied to the NRA or at least for not trying to lead. Yes, he is a senator, but if he doesn't have any pull with some republicans then he should admit it and step aside.

If he can take abuse from his crazies, then he should at least man up and take it from those who have really been affected by gun violence.

Yes, John is quite an extraordinary asshole.

And I read this after watching my Senator, Sen. Murphy, talking eloquently about Newtown on the local gov channel. He deserves to be slapped. What an old, mean bastard.

translates to me, "I understand you aren't looking for bullshit answers, so here it is:"

I don't find that outrageous. If I were the woman, I would find it encouraging that he understood I wanted a flat-out answer.

There are plenty of things to credibly criticize McCain about. Suggesting that the woman wanted unvarnished answers is is not one of those things.

“I wasn’t surprised,” Teves said. “It’s a large, divided issue. I did start my sentence with — and I believe this — ‘I am a supporter of the Second Amendment.’ What they did not show you in that clip was after I did say that the military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines don’t belong on our streets, there was also some huge support and applause that unfortunately was cut out of that clip.” Teves was accompanied at the town hall event by Patricia Maisch, the woman who helped stop shooter Jared Lee Loughner in the Tucson, Ariz., massacre in January 2011. Maisch also recorded McCain’s comments on video, and later told TPM she was disappointed by the senator’s response. “I always wish there was a more positive outcome after those events,” Maisch said.

He said "Thank you for your service" prior to giving the grieving mother the McCain straight talk.

Yes and the crowd cheered... Republicanism is truly a disease.
