You can choose to be held hostage, or you can take off the gloves.

I would pay good money to see the Democrats fight dirty. Really, really dirty.

But the fact of the matter is that The Democratic Party got creamed in 2010 ... especially in state legislatures and Governorships. That allowed the gerrymandering that created a whole lot of Republican politicians who are now immune to any challenge in their home districts. As such, they have no political incentive to work with the President. We will not be able to really fix this until 2020. Until then, we are in for rough sailing.

Hope I am wrong, but that's how I see it.

this isn't 2010. We just had an election in November. Doesn't that count for anything?

Correct me if I am wrong but did the GOP pick up any seats or did they lose 1 or 2?

Presidency: Ours.

Senate: Ours. Wins/Loses?

House: Theirs. Wins/Loses?

My point wasn't about gerrymandering, but playing as dirty as we can get with the team that we have now.

If the GOP wants to let nothing get through then we can always take it to the people. Reid should never have compromised on any filibusters. If we knew it wouldn't work then he knew as well.

Whether it is shutting off the heat, lights, parking, shutting off access of any kind then we (The Democrats) should do whatever we can to make it uncomfortable for the GOP.

Make them sweat. Make them walk 20 feet more. Shut off the elevators for a week. Make they cry, but above all make them pay for not doing their jobs.

Petty? I really don't care. Hey, if we can use the NSA to spy on Americans they they can "access" anything on the GOP under the guise of national security and the RICO act. Make some reason up for what is being done. I'm sure there is plenty that can be dug up...if it already hasn't.

Illegal? For Christ sakes, if our elected officials can write secret documents on torture and targeted killings (aka murder) by drones then can't it come up with another set of standards (LOL) and use it against evil?

Now some could argue that drone killings are legal and that any secret brief exonerates everybody involved with it, but they can't figure out a way to do some good old fashioned blackmail?

Don't tell me its never happened in Washington. Perhaps the Dems have forgotten how to do it.

And please before anybody paints me as being anti-Dem or anti-freedom, we are in a war. We haven't won it, and the battles get more hairy every time elections are held. Its about time we try to win it by any means possible...and hopefully legal.

I hope the leadership of the Democratic Party agrees with you and makes a conscious effort to be aggressive and to actually fight for the people.

Sadly, I remain skeptical that they will.

The republicons don't want to deal with that.

Obama and the Democrats are going to have stand tall, and put the republicons in place.

Yet, the cons really believe in one party rule as long as it's their party. They don't see where it leads. Apparently, historical and present day governments that operate this way don't make an impression on them as to how bad this is.

They mainly seem to want to tear down government and break things, then exploit any resulting dysfunction, confusion or chaos. They can accomplish this handily using a passive approach like this, when they have enough power to obstruct but not to actively destroy as they could during the ShrubCo period. Their stance puts us in a defensive position, since we at least want to try to make government work. From that position, we can't move anything forward and in order to accomplish much we have to keep moving toward their positions, losing ground. This ironically puts us in a conservative role, giving them the vanguard as they seek change (albeit destructive change). That helps them draw in people who are frustrated by "the system". They look like the side that is seeking change, we look like the side defending a broken establishment, even while they've been the ones consistently seeking to break things.

It's hard to see how we can actually move forward, in that situation. It's troubling. A relative of mine voted Democratic in the last election and was emphatically opposed to the Republican stance. Now he's voicing frustration with the state of things and beginning to be swayed by the idea that, with the system not working, things need to be torn down. Keep working his dissatisfaction and he might be easy prey for a teabag movement in 2014.

We really need to call the Reugnants out on this sort of thing. I'm not sure our overall position is as strong as we keep telling ourselves. Continuing to play this game for two years, or four, may not lead voters to reject our opposition as our hopes would have it. But... I am a massive worrywart!
