Three would-be suicide bombers found guilty of UK terror plot - more deadly than 7/7

snip

The men were key figures in a Birmingham-based terror cell which planned to detonate eight to 10 suicide bombs and timed explosive devices that prosecutors said could have caused "death and injury on a massive scale".

snip

From the evidence we presented to the court there were 8-10 bombs that they wanted to deploy, a mixture of suicide bombs and IEDs [improvised explosive devices]. So in terms of their capability, if they delivered on the plans that they had they would have committed mass murder on a horrendous scale."

snip

One of the plans discussed by the trio – of attaching blades to the wheels of cars in order to mow down pedestrians – came directly from Inspire, the second edition of which describes how to create "the ultimate mowing machine".

snip

The trio were heavily influenced by Anwar al-Awlaki, the Yemen-based cleric who was a leader of AQAP until he was killed by a US drone in September 2011. He spread his extremist message through the English language Inspire magazine, which contained bomb-making recipes and encouraged individuals to radicalise themselves and carry out attacks in their own countries. A search of Ali's house after his arrest uncovered a vast library of lectures by Awlaki.

2. Very concerning that Western sexual practices & lifestyle not politics justified their actions.

Naseer says: 'They wanna have sex like donkeys on the street, they wanna club, act like animals and why shouldn't we terrorise them, tell me that?

'You think about it, if someone came in your house, yeah, and started dancing and throughout the night and started basically having orgies and smoking drugs and stuff...you would terrorise them, innit.'

Seriously - Al Queda is a threat?

Seems to me all that's left of Al Queda is a blind guy begging for change and a 10-year old who plays Call of Duty...

5. I'll take that a step further - Al Queda has NEVER been a threat

They're a paper tiger - a boogeyman the military dangles in our face when they want to go to war or invade a country

9/11 was only possible due to the Bush Admin's incompetence (in fact the Y2K attempted bombing was a much better put together plan, and Janet Reno foiled that plan)

Al Queda lost their biggest donor (OBL) and can barely keep themselves together in Pakistan, let alone the rest of the world

to be highly financed to be a threat. Furthermore whether AQ is involved or not in this instance is moot as Islamic terrorism is not the figment of anyone's imagination.

Islamic Terrorism is rare, and most perpetrators get caught

You have a greater chance of dying on your way to work, than you do being blown up while there

The danger comes more from the panic about the threat than the threat itself...

have been caught? How many of the Islamic extremists who destroyed priceless historical buildings in Mali have been caught? What likiehood is there of being caught? You are apparently discounting the experience of countries outside the 1st world.

Yes, that's all going on but are you suggesting we invade Mali, Palestine, and other places we think Al Queda might be?

They are not a threat to us

In Somalia or Mali, they are a threat but so is Dissentary and Cholera

The US needs to stop being World Police

It was about Islamic extremists in Britain. And not only did they get their ideas from 'Inspire', 2 of them went to Pakistan to learn from al Qaeda people, and came back to Britain with a plan for bombs. So they were a danger to Britain.

I never understood how Americans in the flyover states deluded themselves than 9/11 happened to them, or that anything else would. Their baseless sense of panic sent us to war.
But NYC has been a repeated target.
