And the guy who runs it rakes in tons pf money from his overpaid, undereducated dufus farm. FreeRepublic's design resembles some shit I saw scrawled on the itnernet in 1996, not just in content but in technology as well.

Basically you'd think for several hundred thousand dollars a year, this joker could at the least get stable servers.

I admit I'm enjoying this...even though I do miss my occasional forays into the bubbleworld, watching this system crash has been quite amusing. I've had my share of crashes...most of them long ago when equipment was nowhere near as robust as today...back-up machines and drives are a part of doing business. I go crazy if I'm down for an hour...I'd be near suicidal if it lasted the better part of a week. But then...they're using PERL script software that went out of use around 2000 and I'm suspecting a bunch of Trash 80s...

The longer they're down the more people will gravitate to other sites. Then, there'll be the fallout when the system comes back up...especially if the databases were corrupted. I've always considered freeperville a relic of the bad old days...nice to see it marginalized.

Big kudos to Skinner, Elad and EarlG who keep this place up and rolling 24/7/365 and rarely is there a major outage or glitch.

and good ol' rimjob has a personal lifestyle to maintain.

I hope this bankrupts that site, it would be funny as hell to hear how it's all Obama's fault.

are already coming up with their Obama zotted the server conspiracy theories. Some of those idiots actually think POTUS is pre-occupied with their existence .

I think a vBulletin license is around $300. They can get business class hosting for like $1000 a year or less. They can get a full blown hosted service package from Invision for like $7,000.

Do you know how many 5.25 inch floppies it took to back up that system?

Then you gotta start the upgrade from Windows 3.1 ....
