In today's St. Maries Gazette-Record (small town Idaho weekly) is a story about a drug bust.
Idaho law states that anyone busted with at least 100 marijuana plants be cited for trafficking, whereas 99 or less has the option of simple possession...I don't know why the threshold is that high because more than one lid of finished marijuana gets you charged for trafficking in at least 43 of the 44 counties - maybe not Idaho County because there's no one there to sell pot to...
This candidate for immortality told the cops his weed was for personal use. When they got in there they found he had 599 pot plants in his living room, that he had 30 kW of metal halide lighting (the power company reported a massive increase in electric use) and he'd removed the roof over his living room so the plants would get sunlight.
Oh...there is no medical marijuana here.
Can one man smoke 599 pot plants in one life?

I'm not sure how you can get that many plants in one room unless the room is huge or the plants are tiny.

(31,519 posts)I really don't know how long it would take to smoke that much. Some people would burn through it faster than others.

(17,064 posts)If the plants grew to 12' size. But I have to ask why he had grow lights if he removed the roof of his house so the plants got sunlight? Whole lot of dumb there, or maybe he was already sampling his crop.

(3,065 posts)I've smoked for over thirty years in moderation and I gotta say I've probably done it 3 or 4 times.

(13,869 posts)and 3 joints per gram, and smoking 1 entire joint every hour all day every day.
599 * 2 (ounces per plant) * 28 (grams in an ounce) * 3 (joints per gram) = 100,632 joints
1 (joint per hour) * 16 (hours not asleep per day) * 365 (days per year) = 5840 joints per year
100,632 / 5840 = 17.23 years.
And that's with a fairly conservative estimate on yield and a very liberal estimate on amount smoked per day. If he only smoked 3 joints a day instead, it'd take 92 years to smoke it all.

(50,560 posts)St. Maries doesn't pay cops enough to live on so they have bad cops. A town with Buford T. Justice, Barney Fife and Officer Barbrady as its PD would be better policed. They had fourteen jail breaks in 2011...nine by the same prisoner. He'd break out, get recaptured and break out again. And the jail is on the third floor!
After the cops raided this place they photographed the evidence, sent one plant to the state police lab and put the rest in a warehouse. The night after it was put in there, someone broke in and took it all.
