In third or fourth grade, they showed us how blasting caps and firearm cartridges were dangerous, they showed us how a gun could go off unintentionally.
They told us to never ever touch a gun, to tell and adult if ever we encounter one.
I'm told on DU that these are "NRA Talking Points".
Can we please stop with the BULLSHIT?
Gun safety classes and education are good things people.
Knock it the hell off.

(11,093 posts)This is not a cartoon about a "gun safety class". It's about the LaPierre/NRA proposal to arm everyone in a classroom.
On edit, I don't mean "in a classroom", I mean in a school - teachers, custodians, administration, etc.

(68,644 posts)LaPierre is himself a mockery of reason and an embarrassment to, really, everyone.
I don't know how the cartoon serves a purpose, he's a joke enough without any help.
Cirque du So-What
(25,974 posts)but this cartoon has nothing to do with gun-safety classes. It's a satirical representation of an ordinary school day if the NRA suggestion of arming teachers is taken to its logical conclusion - 'logical' in a cartooney sense, of course.
Actually, I wish schools still taught gun-safety classes. Arming teachers? Not so much.

(68,644 posts)And apologies for missing the point.
I haven't followed anything about arming students, but if the NRA has mentioned that then they are more stupid than I thought.
I made the mistake of conflating all of the drama of recent weeks about gun safety classes with this stupid idea of arming teachers, as, evidently, mocked in the cartoon and taken, apparently, to the next level to include the idea of arming kids.
Please tell me that nobody is suggesting arming students!

(68,644 posts)My bad.
Nobody is suggesting CCW permits for K-12 kids.
It's just a cartoon.
I suppose I should K and R it and be the good soldier.

(154,021 posts)Yes, he's an idiot. The more stupid he gets, the more ammo, no pun.

(11,093 posts)that was really just a secondary joke. The real part was about Bob the Custodian toting an AR-15 or whatever it is, and how the atmosphere changes when all the people you'd expect to be safe are actually highly armed.
NYC_SKP
(68,644 posts)I hate the idea, of course. Batshit crazy of anyone to think that armed people on any campus is going to change anything.
The problems are in the cities, the inner cities, in the cold hearts of congress and corporate America that make so many feel hopeless and helpless, the crazy availability of firearms and the disproportionate penalties for, say, marijuana dealers versus armed thugs.
It's a bad world, let's not make it worse.
