Man Quits Job Over "Mark of the Beast" On His Tax Form
Opening your form W-2 can be traumatic for many folks but for one Tennessee man, it was enough to make him quit his job.
Walter Slonopas, a maintenance worker at Contech Casting LLC in Clarksville, Tennessee wasnt upset with the dollar figures on the form but rather the control numbers. The form W-2 he received was stamped by the payroll company with the number 666. To the payroll company, it represented the order in which the forms were mailed out to taxpayers. But for Slonopas, it was much more sinister: it was the number of the beast.
According to Slonopas, who considers himself a born again Christian, the number is often used as a symbol of the devil. That, he figured, left him two options after the receipt of the W-2: quit his job or go to hell. He chose the former, saying, If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil.

(5,937 posts)I get that on a receipt from time to time. I once had a server adjust the total of my bill, I didn't tell her too, she glanced at it before handing it to me and said "let me chanhe this" she brought it back with 6.65.

He was the best roommate I ever had, I still sometimes wonder what he's up too.

(41,990 posts)When I picked it up they told me that there were people who wouldn't accept one. To me it was just a chuckle, but the biggest worry got to be that someone would take a liking to it and steal it. I got strong positives from little goth kids and negatives from fundies and some who were just superstitious. I was just happy I could easily remember it!

(2,140 posts)I saw this story a week or so ago....An article linked to the story referenced texts from earlier times than the King James version,in which the number was 616,and was changed inexplicably for inclusion in the more modern version, for whatever that's worth......
Beyond that,though..This guy still is required to file a tax return and include the appropriate copies of all pertinent documents...Quitting his job changes none of that......

(23,296 posts)It took many years, but eventually people made the phone company stop using it.
My best story is when I used to bowl on leagues. One game, both teams on our lane had matching total pins in the (8th) frame of 666. I pointed it out and someone said "hey, play that in the lottery." The next day, the 3-digit was 666.
