So I guess this Hagel thing was just more theater:
"Multiple GOP senators, including John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), have all announced that they intend to switch their votes from no to yes when the issue comes before the Senate just over a week from now. So call it a 'filibluster.'"

(26,877 posts)'s ok though. They're committing slow-motion suicide that they won't be able to recover from by 2014 midterms. Maybe, not even 2016!

(46,416 posts)Obama will get tired of wasting energy and time on Hagel and ask him to withdraw. They have lied several times over on filibustering, only a fool would believe that they will somehow be all straight with Chuck in 10 days. The same big donors telling them what to do now (the ones who spent all that money in ads running against Hagel for a month in many markets--who the hell even cares about SecDef besides military people and political nerds?) will still be there 10 days from now.

(3,226 posts)Obama should do a "recess" appointment so the Hagel can go to the NATO meeting. Or call them back in session to vote.

(45,514 posts)during their filibuster, it be blamed on the Repubs holding up the DOD nomination. They now own every defense, foreign service, or national security issue for the next week or so.
