Settle down already.
Yes. The situation sucks. But the passengers and crew survived a FIRE on a free-floating stucture the size of a few city blocks. So there's that.

(5,810 posts)teens and pre-teens (to their parents waiting for them) whining and crying to be "let off this ship!" Boo hoo.
"We had to eat an onion sandwich. Woe is me!" I know they've been inconvenienced and disappointed but come on. Have these people never been through any adversity?
One photograph they sent out was a tangled mess of extension cords strung together and guess what they were doing with it? Charging up their cell phones. Can't live without THAT. I am sure some of them have been in withdrawal throughout this ordeal since they've had limited cell phone use. For some I am sure that is the worst tragedy of all.
Another photograph on CNN's website was people on the deck spelling out the word H E L P with their bodies. Are they kidding? SOS written on a sheet hanging from the railing? Do they think no one knows of their plight? Each and every one of them will have their opportunity for their 15 minutes of fame once that ship gets into port later tonight. A whole hoard of reporters will be there waiting to accost them as soon as they come into the terminal. Some will, no doubt, make their arrangements, via their recently charged cell phones before they ever depart from the ship!
Do I think some of these people are being overly dramatic? Yes. Opportunistic? You bet. I totally understand their disappointment and inconvenience. But they are grown ups (for the most part) and if I had a child on board with me, I'd be doing everything I could to reassure them that we'll be OK. Not plotting how much I could get out of the situation. And no, I don't think most of those passengers are doing that. Just some.

(51,666 posts)sanitation and public health. This thing had the makings of a deadly catastrophe. They are very lucky large numbers of people didn't fall seriously ill or even die.
But go ahead and mock people who have been cheated, mistreated, and subjected to inhumane conditions.
I'm not sure you belong on a site for liberals, however. Your lack of compassion for your fellow humans is rather telling.

(154,021 posts)It is still a mystery (no, not really the answer is greed) why they did not tow to the shipyards n Veracruz. They were the closest port with facilities.

Sure there are way more serious hardships on the planet but they paid for a vacation and were stranded in an awful situation.
I am no teen or pre-teen, but I would have wanted to get off that ship. Well truthfully I'd never be on it in the first place.

(32,076 posts)Kuryla and McGuigan - they're in your book! Sweet guys, nice wives, they were still all in "card club" together when I met my hubs. They came to our wedding. Shortly after we married I was watching TV and yelled to honey that PBS had a special on the Indy and had he heard that story? That's when he told me those two guys had been on that boat. Just wow.

(17,621 posts)The stories are of no sanitation, little electricity, and little food. It doesn't take long for the mood to get extremely ugly under such conditions.
