“This is the first time in the history of our country that a presidential nominee for secretary of defense has been filibustered. What a shame,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the floor of the chamber.

I don't look for it to ever end. My hope is that over time more will not be re-elected and we then can regain some sanity in Congress.

From all I'm reading this is all theatrics as Reid says he has the 60 votes to invoke cloture (meaning at least 5 rushpublicans WILL vote for Hagel's confirmation) and he will become Secretary of Defense. Unlike the past we know whose putting on the hold and why...not let's see little Linz and Gramps throw their PR hissy fits and Cruz can make himself a bigger fool...to paraphrase our President "please procede"...

This is as much about the war inside the rushpublican party as it is about trying to "get Obama". The neo-cons fear sequestration and any downscaling of the military cause their real bosses have been raking in billions on the "War on Terra". War is their profit center and they see Hagel as someone who'd seriously crimp their bottom lines. Right now the neo-cons are fighting to stay relevant within the rushpublican party as the teabaggers and Paulbots also favor defense cuts.

10. i know we are against this because Hagel is Obama's pick...but he would

have only been my pick if we had a Republican president and Republican controlled Senate. Let them filibuster...just shows how they don't get along and makes them look even worse than they do now. Drive those approval numbers
lower. But, do they really think if Hagel doesn't get in, that Obama would pick someone more conservative
and more pro-Israel? Or will they filibuster everyone?
