(111,282 posts)Apparently all the snakes he's taken out of those boxes have been puzzled rather than frightened and didn't bite him.
I really have no problem with the snake handlers. They're gentle with the snakes, trying not to harm them. The music is gospel on acid, especially when they bring the snakes out. Above all, the risk is 100% voluntary and they don't proselytize.
They also restrict the fun to adults, only. Kids watch but can't get near the snakes.
They're mostly the good, hardworking folks you find all over the Appalachians. The only way you know who they are is that they're the ones who don't wear their religion on their sleeves.
