http://www.wnem.com/story/21176341/nurse-sues-hospital-over-alleged-racist-noteA lawsuit filed against Hurley claims she found a note in a patient's file stating, "No African American nurse to take care of baby."
According to court documents, the nurse was caring for a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit when the baby's father asked to speak with a supervisor. The lawsuit states he told the nurse in charge that he didn't want any African Americans taking care of his baby, then he pulled up a sleeve showing a tattoo believed to be a Swastika.
I'd hate to punish the wife but I'd want to say "Go have your baby in the parking lot"

(1,689 posts)Hurley Hospital is in Flint Michigan and has a large AA population.
I know being a racist makes you stupid (or maybe it's the other way around) but why go to a hospital that you know is going to be staffed with a large percentage of African American nurses?

(1,689 posts)... the baby though deserves care. Even though it's likely to grow up to be a racist asshole like it's father.

It's funny, but fully half the people who have requested not to be cared for by an AA nurse have been AA people, themselves. The prejudice that they're only there because of affirmative action and are therefore inferior is strong.
I wish there had been more widespread education about what affirmative action does: it might open a door, but only brains and hard work will keep you on the other side of it.
