TPM: Rubio Takes Awkward Water Break At State Of The Union Speech (VIDEO)

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/rubio-takes-sip-of-water-midway-through-sotu

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared to be having some trouble delivering the GOP rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday night, when he awkwardly reached for a sip of water midway through his speech.

and I just figured it out...modern political theater is much better delivered if you've actually WORKED IN THEATER. No AMATEUR actor would make an on-camera mistake like that, and no wonder these loons can't seem to replace the vaunted Saint Ronnie.

(BTW, fine and performing arts classes are part of a LIBERAL Arts curriculum at most colleges nowadays. You guys over there on your side OBVIOUSLY aren't doing yourselves any favors by getting rid of that kind of stuff LOLOLOLOLLOLLOLHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA).

I knew he was in trouble when he was wiping his temple...and then the lurch...and then wiping his mouth.....

It was an embarassment. First I was dropping my jaw at what he was saying, which sounded just like a Romney campaign speech, and then I couldn't focus on what he was saying. It was like watching one of those awkward American Idol try outs, when they go in with bluster and confidence and then totally face plant.

37. How many SOTU responses have I seen with a water break?

None. Worse still (from the GOP's point of view) is that their entire message has been eclipsed by that one sip, just as their whole "Second Amendment rights are sacred" meme is overwhelmed by the presence of Ted Nugent in the audience. All he needed was his rifle:JC Penney

No one is getting sexually aroused. It was unexpected and funny for that to happen to a politician during a planned national speech. These things are usually carefully choreographed. One could watch a hundred of these speeches and not see anything like that. Furthermore, it wasn't taking a sip of water, it was the very awkward way he did it.

He's humiliated Latinos everywhere. No gravitas or demeanor of competence and confidence. He's exactly what the GOP was looking for: a token front man to appeal to a vital minority they're striking out with. So, they picked a vacuous cover model who does the equivalent of cooing about world peace when asked about his qualifications for Mr. America. A Hispanic teabagger makes me cringe. How many Latinos were at the Boston Tea Party, I wonder.

Not sure if he was wiping away sweat or trying to get rid of a mosquito, but he did it several times that I noticed.

He came across as very awkward and unsure of himself, almost as if he knew the words he was speaking were full of crap.

52. Here's my guess as to what happened
Wed Feb 13, 2013, 05:04 PM
Feb 2013

Rubio was reading from a teleprompter, and when he decided to go for the water, he realized that the teleprompter was going to keep on scrolling without him. He panicked, because he didn't want to lose his place in the speech. Probably had a very conflicted moment where he was tempted to forget the water, but he had already made his move, and he figured he'd look even MORE stupid if he attempted to back out of taking his swig. Therefore, he wouldn't take his eyes off the teleprompter for fear of screwing up the speech.

Educated guess.

It should have been in easier reach!

The Obama team would have done that. Obama would have taken the swig while people were clapping and cheering. This guy didn't have a chance for that.
