On edit, I take that back. No tie. From Ed Schultz's Facebook page:

(23,973 posts)He can wear all the Confederate flags and fringes leather he wants to, Nugent is just another city boy trying to fit in with the droolers who pay to see him at bowling alleys and county fairs.

(46,354 posts)I wear jeans all the time, and I would if I was a guest at a SOTU speech.
There is no real "dress code," granted, outlandish or attention-getting clothes are not allowed.
But just make sure Ted keeps his big mouth shut, quit being so petty about whether he's wearing jeans or not.

(24,380 posts)It's the State of the Union speech, for fucks sake, not a meeting at the fucking gun club!

(46,354 posts)I even wear jeans to church. (Funerals.)
Someone orders me to wear a suit and tie, unless there is a damn good reason for doing it, I'll say "Fuck that."
I dress casual but decent.
Besides, Hitler always wore a suit and tie!
A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)Is there a rule?
Probably not.
Is this an occasion where jeans are appropriate?
A couple hundred years of tradition would suggest NO
Archae
(46,354 posts)I'd want to be comfortable watching that speech.
I don't give a damn if "tradition" says "suit and tie."

(1,370 posts)that funerals are for the living. What you were coming off as is "I don't have enough respect for your grief or the dead to put on a decent pair of pants."
Pretty much the same message Turd Nugget was attempting to send tonight.

(45,851 posts)If a family member of mine dies and I'm worried about what people are wearing at the funeral then my priorities are pretty fucked up.
Just be glad someone showed up to support you, what their wrappings are is unimportant.
Don't judge the book by the cover, consider that bikers who would show up to a funeral in t shirts and jeans also blocked Westboro assholes from grieving families.

The Twittersphere has erupted with tweets and Anonymous has posted a description of the action on their Facebook page. Huffington Post reported on December 19 that good samaritan motorcyclists, Angel Action, were ready to counter Westboro in Woodbury, Conn. All these guys see us and think were bad. Were not. Its solidarity, is what it is, New York native Jim Hannigan told Newtown Patch. I just felt I had to be here.
