Why is Ted Nugent being allowed to attend the State of the Union address?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/blog/inside-politics/2013/feb/11/ted-nugent-be-guest-state-union/

While other members of Congress are hosting gun-control advocates for Tuesday's State of the Union address, Rep. Steve Stockman has given one of his visitor's gallery tickets to Ted Nugent, the conservative gun-rights supporter.

"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama," Mr. Stockman said in a statement announcing the choice. "After the address I'm sure Ted will have plenty to say."

Why would anybody who has threatened the President be allowed anywhere near him?

The man is a chickenhawk who--uh--crapped out on going to Vietnam, and he sure as hell isn't going to put his narcissistic little self at any kind of risk now.

Anyway, the SOTU crowd isn't exactly selected for refinement, decency or even sanity. Otherwise they wouldn't let at least 1/3 of Congress in, not to mention an equally large proportion of the Supreme Court.

On one hand, Nugent has made a host of incendiary remarks about elected officials, including Obama, and some of them could be considered threatening.

On the other hand, Nugent has at least one NFA tax stamp for legal full-auto, and the Secret Service has paid him a visit to discuss, among other things, the possiblility of having those stamps revoked.

That said, I give it 50-50.

Plus, he can be a guest of a member of Congress, but that doesn't exempt him from having to go through a security checkpoint. If the Secret Service is concerned that he poses a threat anyway, they will make the call and he will be disinvited. As for his behavior? having looked up Steve Stockman on the Internet I can clearly say Ted Nugent is actually as qualified to be a member of congress as the man that invited him to the state of the union. That they will both be there seems to me a perfect example of the emptiness of the modern GOP. If Obama wants to point to an example of why Congress can not function look no further than the quality of its members and who they value the opinion's of... like Ted Nugent. To me it pretty much says it all about the state of the current union.

Douchebag Nug knows if he so much as opens his mouth he'll be tossed out on his ass. He's essentially neutered before he walks in. He is the poster child for everything horrible about Conservatism and the NRA. The Teabag nutballs have done more to destroy Conservatism than in any Liberal's wet dream about doing so. I'd pay real money if he shouts out something to interrupt Obama. I hope he is utterly batshit crazy.

It's like war and executions ... televise them and people will realize how horrifying they are and they will end. Put Nugent front and center with a scrolling caption on the bottom of the screen "shit himself to avoid serving his Country".

The only attendees allowed onto the House floor for the SOTU are the members of the House and Senate, cabinet members, members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Supreme Court. That's it. Nugent will be stuck up in the gallery with all other "guests" of members of Congress who attend. While I don't know how seating is allocated for the gallery, my guess would be that Nugent more likely than not won't be in the front row. My fervent wish would be that whoever has the seats in front of Nugent invites Jonathan Ogden (all of fame Baltimore Ravens Tackle, 6 foot 9, 345 pounds and Shaquille O'Neal (7 foot 1, 310 pounds) to sit in those seats.

And everyone entering the gallery will be thoroughly searched and screened.

I mean, didn't he say that if Obama got re-elected, he (Nugent) would either be in prison or dead?

Well, he's neither. Yet.

But even still, I can't see where this is going to make him look very good in the eyes of anyone who thinks he's some kind of hero or something.

And who knows....if he does attend, maybe (like someone above said) the Secret Service hopes he'll do something arrest-worthy.

Tue Feb 12, 2013, 02:23 PM

still has a right as an American citizen and Obama is his President whether he likes it or not, I changed my mind in the light of precedent. Cindy Sheehan was arrested at a SOTUS because then pResident Bush didn't like her T-Shirt. Grace Slick and Tricia Nixon, former President Richard Nixon's daughter, are alumnae of Finch College. Grace was invited to a tea party for the alumnae at the White House in 1969. She invited the political activist Abbie Hoffman to be her escort and planned to spike President Richard Nixon's tea with 600 micrograms of LSD. The plan was thwarted when they were prevented from entering after being recognized by White House security personnel, as Slick had been placed on an FBI blacklist. So if Grace and Abbie had threatened the President with LSD, it seems that since Nugent has threatened the President and could be armed with more than LSD, I think he shouldn't be allowed into the chambers.
