(11,804 posts)Or, actually, what states have the highest suicide rates? Those seem like bad states to live in.

(5,514 posts)that higher ownership didn't necessarily correlate with higher death rates.
Can't find it though, and I have to say the image in the OP just seems obvious.

(493 posts)How do we know the percentage of gun ownership in a state?
I know lots of folks that have guns for years that are neither registered nor anyone that would be compiling this data would even know about.
Just curious as to the "behind the stats" equation as I've seen the same report (2007) that lists different states in the top 5. Some are in this top 5 but some are not.

(10,201 posts)it does not state where they obtained the firearm ownership statistics. I searched out using both bing and google and I found several consistant rates of ownership, however they were all tied to a Wahington post survey from 2001. The percentages of ownership were quite close to the VPC's graphic. Here is what I could find for all 50 states using the same CDC data for 2007.
Sorted By Gun ownership Ranking (1 high 50 low) - Overall Gun Death Ranking (1 high 50 low) - Gun Homicide Ranking (1 high 50 low) - State With Ownership Percentage. The gun deaths overall and gun homicides are all based on rate per 100K of each state's population.
