Ann Landers was one of the first advice columnists in the country to write sympathetically in response to letters from gays and lesbians. In tribute to her pioneering work on that, Dan "Savage Love" Savage bought Ann Landers' typewriter and keeps it on display in his home.

God (well, the one that the Christian church fantasizes about any way*) has a really bad track record on family planning. Frankly, if He really were so all-powerful as they make Him out to be, I'd say the Guy is pretty damn sadistic and actually enjoys hurting people.

* Actually, any of the religions that came out of the Abraham clan fall into this category of having horrific fantasies of the nature of God.

she got from the religious right when she advocated masturbation as a form of safe-sex. Can't really argue with that logic.

Back when I was teaching I had several quotes in my classroom, including one from Dear Abby:

"Those who do not read are no better off than those who cannot read."

planner" and alone knows what tomorrow brings, that means you never go to the doctor, yes? after all, if god is the ultimate family planner, you have no business interfering with his plans for your demise from illness or accident, yes?

after all, we must be consistent here.

oh, and by the way, I am a "lovely and brilliant" WOMAN, NOT a girl. how patronizing and condescending you are.

Now who woulda' thought
that me and my girlfriend
would ever get caught
sittin' in the back seat,
just shootin' the breeze
with her hair up in curlers
and her pants to her knees

signed,

She really messed me up. They made us watch a movie with Ann Landers in it when I was in high school. Basically she said "Do anything on a date except kiss or make out. Men want one thing and one thing only, and once they get that they will throw you away like Kleenex. Sex is filthy and nasty and if you are not a virgin and female, you are "used goods" and totally worthless."

This movie gave me and a lot of other people massive guilt trips for having normal teenage sexual urges. Nobody told me anything otherwise, or gave me any information about sex or boys, so I believed that Ann Landers horseshit.

Dear Abby was far more reasonable.

...it's well known that in the Akins-like mind of Gawd, poor Xtians, if they are "good", are not supposed to have sex at all, even if married, 'cause they can't care for a child, once born. Sex is reserved only for rich people---and they can even have unlimited sex, 'cause every time they get preggers, it's not a problem. In this fundamentalist world, sex exists for one reason, and one reason only--and that's procreation--- any other reason is tinged with "sin". Scratch the anti-birth control mind and you find the Western Taliban.

They are sexually freaked out.
